i am super happy with my choices.  R is tried-and-true  --- it will always be "popular" but never trendy, and this was the perfect balance for me.  i meet many more adult Rs than children.  we do come across them here and there though (they tend to be jewish in these parts - in NY it's pretty uncommon for catholic people to use the name R).  i also love that i can tell her the bible story of R, and when she's old enough, i can't wait for her to read the red tent - that book REALLY sold me on the name.

R hates her name and always has.  this makes me sad. i do think one day she'll like it.  she says it's too common (bc she sees it in a lot of books, movies, celebs, etc) but there are no other Rs in her class so i'm not sure what she's complaining about.

i love C's name too - it's not very popular spelled with the C (i think it ranks in the 200s or something) but certainly it's a name everyone knows, which i love.  like R, C seems to be more popular in my age group than theirs...i havent come across any Cs her age.  i think it's a very delicate and sweet name - just what C needs to balance that personality out <3

i can never find personalized stuff with C though - i see it spelled with a K much more often.

Koda doesn't even appear on a list I don't think, lol.  BUT, we have run into one before!  While I know people thought it was an odd choice at first (or maybe even still), it really suits him and I have never had a regret.  And I adore his middle name Jude.  I was unbelievably stubborn on that one.  The moment I conceived I told Travis if it was a boy, his middle name was Jude.

Tristen, I think was low on the popularity list, but still made the list at least.  Koda has a Tristan in his class, but it isn't super common around here.  His middle name is not everyones cup of tea at all (Rain), but I still love it.

For us, it is more a battle between me wanting it to not be WAY out there, and Travis who has the most ridiculous taste in names ever.  Spelling- we go with what looks right to us.  Tristen can be spelled -in, -an-, -en with -an being the most popular spelling.  For us, -an sort of implied a slightly different pronunciation than -en (Travis wanted -in, the final decision we agreed on was in the hospital.  If the kiddo had red hair, his name would be Tristin, if it was another color it would be -en.  I won.).

I don't like CRAZY off the wall spellings where you can barely tell what the name is.  Obviously, I'm pretty open to unique names.  My personal preference if I didn't have a compromise would be more mainstream (Noah, Cooper, Jonah), but Travis vetoes those in the same passion I veto Granite, and Gangus.

Oh, baby names.

I didn't know Koda's middle name was Jude. So is Ethan's.

To the original questions, Ethan's name was very popular when he was born but that's not why we picked it. I've loved the name Ethan since hs, before it was super popular. Jude was my hs bf's bro's middle name, also loved and reminds me of the Beatles song, which I always sang to Ethan.

In spite of the popularity, he has not had another Ethan in his class.

I didn't take into account the popularity of any of our names. I just likes them and still do. Seems like after I had Presley, I'd see that name in the birth announcements at least once a month in the paper. I don't know of any other Sarah Grace's, and when I picked Kenley I knew of 1 other one. I now know 3, lol

i have a friend who married a southern woman and they live in maybe NC now? they just named their kid kenley (he doesn't have the southern accent though so it's pronounced differently from how you say it).  C has a girl in preschool named sarah grace, but grace is her middle name and they dont use it regularly.  does SG have a separate mn? does everyone call her sarah grace all the time? it's C's middle name as well and i find myself calling her CG quite a bit.

Kelly, Grace is her middle name as well. Some people call her Sarah, some call her Sarah Grace, I actually call her both.

I've always thought it wrong-  I imagned it Car-ah.  (It is beautiful no matter what, just funny I've "said" it wrong all this time)

lol. i know. when we named her that, we figured a lot of people would do car-a.  with our accent, sarah is pronounced SAAA-rah (instead of sair-ah), so cara is caaaaa-ra and not care-a...

but in general i just tell people to rhyme it with sarah, and however their accents make that first A sound is fine :)
