It's Science Fair Project time!

Oh, boy!

I saw some other 6th grade moms posting on FB about their kids' science fair projects. And Henry's friend John-David was here yesterday. His dad said that all he had left to complete was some typing.

I'm 90% sure that this project isn't due until the end of January but if that's the case, why is everyone almost finished?

So anyway, I've started gathering the supplies for Henry's project and putting them on the kitchen table.

We might as well get to work, too.

Henry is making an anemometer, a machine that measures wind speeds. I did tell Henry that he needs to go ahead and make it so he can record some wind speeds for several days.

Anyone else doing Science Fair projects?

Our kids have to do it in stages and he teachers check along the way. They have to show their work and that weekly. It also helps them know the kids are learning and the parents are not doing it. They have to present their entire report and project to the judges to prove they fully understand and did it. The judges ask question, etc. it is a huge process.

2 years ago (in 4th grade), the whole process was done in class.

Last year, they had certain stages to turn in at certain times.

This year, they are on their own.

They are on their own, but they do it that way to prove they are doing the process and parents not doing it. We actually do not do science fair in 6th. They have environmental science. They do sciene fair here in 4/5 and the 7th is a big one where they submit to the university one that has schools from all over the state. They take a field trip to take down and set them up. The university judges them and gives out awards.
