Extreme Couponing

I KNOW you gals have probably talked about this show before but I just recently discovered it and I'm obsessed.

I really wish I had 30 to 50 hours a week to dedicate to it. I think I'd be really good at it. But alas, I don't.

It does make me want to start using more coupons though.

My problem is that I am a namebrand ho-er. Not in a snobish way but because I've been using certain brands all my life and I'm not willing to change to something just because it's on sale. Like I'll never use disposable razers on my legs. I like my legs un-cut up thank you.

Anywho, I like it when the people on the show actually donate stuff or let their friends come "shop" in their stockpiles. The horders are just crazy.

I used to coupon for a while, but storage is non-existent in our apartment.  I plan to get back to it and stockpile once we get a house.  Not the 80 years worth of deodorant psycho stockpiles, but enough to get from sale cycle to cycle.  I have to be honest though, it completely intimidates me to see how good they are.

i've never seen the show, but i've heard alot about it (most people seem to view it negatively).

My view on it is that if you have the room and it is not in a "crazy" way, do it. for example, if you currently shop at sams or costco and buy in bulk, i don't see the stockpile you can create with coupons any differently (only cheaper). for example, i often get those boxed frozen vegetables that you microwave really cheap (and i wait until they go on sale because they always do). i recently got them for 4 cents a box and have gotten them for free before (and i filled up m whole freezer with them and them my freezer came unplugged...lol so they all went to waste (just my luck) ;)

as far as the time commitment. i think that as you do it, you can become better at it and it doesn't take as long. last month, i made out my shopping list and put together my coupons, etc. and it took me an hour. i went to two stores and that prob took an hour but i saved like 60% so it didn't seem any different than just what anyone else would do timewise. oh and i can actually shop faster because i know specifically what i need to get (no lingering in the store, etc.)

oh re namebrand - yeah, you kinda have to be flexible about it, but you can also just scout out those particular brands too and wait for the deals.  i do prefer wisk laundry detergent and if i come accross a good deal on it - i make sure to really stock up.  my cat has become attached to friskies cat food (which sux because there are always SO many deals on cat food but not now I have to only buy Friskies). i recenlty got his cat food for $1 a bag and i just stocked him up for the next year ;)

I have an issue with that show.

Last night they were in CO at a grocery store where I shop. I know that store limits to 3 like coupon yet on the show they were taking 100+ of the same one.

I wonder if it's like a setup or something.

Colorado sucks for coupons. :(

I have read tons of articles that a lot of it is fraud that they are doing. So, who knows. I think if you can get good deals that is great, but much of it is insane to me. Plus, most the stuff I see coupons for, I do not want.

I have watched a few times and wondered the same thing...Like one of our stores here does double coupons every day but the price of the coupon doubled cannot exceed the amount of the item... (I also never got my coupon doubled which made me miffed)..A lot of these women are exceeding the amount of the item in terms of coupons...How is that possible?

And where on earth do they get their coupons?

Some of it doesn't seem logical to stock up on deodorant (unless you have a medical condition that requires that much deodorant) and shampoo (I buy maybe a bottle of each every 3-4 months)....And feminine products...(What is the probability a woman is going to go through that many tampons before menopause?)...And laundry detergent...I sometimes wonder if its more or less an addiction...

I think for some it becomes an addiction for some.

I've actually been meaning to ask you about this.  I know in NJ you were doing it alot and had a good stash going - I was wondering how CO compared and if you were still couponing.

I just feel like IN is not a good place to coupon . . .but I don't know if I know that for sure or I just assume it since I don't know how to do it.

I agree with you....Its that glint in their eyes and the look on their faces..

I did find a site that touched on the fraud you were talking about.
