what is all the excitement?  Ivy doesn't seem at all interested in them when we get the catalog or see the knock off versions at Target.  She is still into the little baby dolls (you know...no hair, diaper, etc.) lol

Clara particularly loves all the accessories. She and her friends set up little cities with a hair salon, a tea room, etc.

Caroline and Ivy are twins, right? wink

I got Caroline an American Girl doll for her 7th birthday. She pretty much never does anything with it. She took the dress off of it and put it on a stuffed dog. hmm

They are ADORABLE and I wish Caroline was more into it because I love the whole thing ... but they are pricey and unless/until Ivy is interested I would wait. just my.02

If she is not interested, do not waste your money.

My girls love them, but like Clara, they love the accessories. They have this camp fire set and I often find them in the dark in their room singing camp fire songs, with the stuff all out, lol.

I personally love the stuff more I think :)

Imo now is the time to start only. cecile played with hers till she was 11. They have activity books and stuff that are for older girls. You are just at the beginning of the window!

my kids love them, but i agree- wait if she's not interested. they are pricey and nothing is more frustrating than seeing them sitting on the shelf getting no play-time.  my kids play school with them, or tea/birthday party -- they also are a huge hit on playdates (it's pretty much the main thing they play with on playdates) - i havent gone crazy on accessories yet, but i think i might get some stuff for them for christmas.

fun...is the campfire set part of kaya's stuff?  my kids want the lunchboxes this year.  they want the beds too but at $200 a bed, no way.

eta: i mean the lunchboxes for the dolls.  R wants julie this time around, and i think C wants molly, but she hasnt completely decided.

Just came back to read this thread as Kiera has developed a new interest in AG.  I like the idea of the books and crafts for older girls - glad to hear the window is just opening, cause I dont want to invest in a doll if she is at the end of the window!  But, since it is the only toy she has expressed interest in, I think she will be super excited.

Just wanted to add that I picked up a couple of doll/kid Dollie & Me outfits from sears for $25 dollars a set (as compared to the $25 for the doll and $60 for the kid). They also have them at Kohls for people that are not picky about the "brand" of the doll clothes.
