Erin, Sorry i do have to disagree with your exercise statement, and i think its important to explain why. With diets like this, you are losing weight too quickly. And this being the case, you will lose muscle rather than fat- which may look great on the scale, but that fat will stay and when you gain back some pounds, it will be more fat... Yes, you are on a limited calorie diet so you wont feel like running a marathon or lifting weights, but you REALLY need to move your body- take a long walk, walk stairs instead of taling an elevator etc. This is why these types of diets need to be under doctor care- you need soneone explaining this. I think you guys remember that 13 months ago i paid for my bff to have gastric bypass- i also have another friend who was vrey helpful. Patients going through this extreme surgery have two commandments- thou shall eat protein, and thou shall exercise. SO important- and the reason for this is to maintain muscle mass. Why eat protein? Bariatric surgery patients know that protein is the only thing that the body needs that cannot be taken by a supplement. (i assume this cleanse has vitamin supplements- you all should be taking that too, if not in the first days then in the longer term maintenance period) Even from the medifast days - lean and green -why green? Spinach and broccoli are the veggies with the highest protein content. So sorry to get on a soapbox, but i care so much about you all and i am somewhat concerned that you may be jumping from fad diet to fad diet without understanding enough about the nutritional impacts and understanding what these diets do to your body, how and why they get results etc.

Megan - I appreciate your knowledge and all that you bring to the table on this topic.  I love learning the "why" b/c in the past . . . and I'm going to come across pretty stupid but I didn't think about what foods protein was . ..  I knew peanut butter and I knew meat but I didn't know what meat was considered lean protein and in what portion was an appropriate serving of protein.

I am taking a supplement that is an amino acid (catalyst) - it is supposed to be food for the muscle, it is to maintain and preserve the muscle while leaning you out.  I am definitely seeing results with it.

I'm also taking an Omega supplement that is a natural diaretic and it is meant to mobilize and flush the stored fat out.

There are several other supplements for the 14 day phase that I'm in now (calcium, probiotics, etc.).

I'm not viewing this as a fad diet - I've never dieted before and the main reason is I didn't want to jump on a fad diet to only end up gaining lots of weight in the end.  I was content to stay at the weight I was at with a muffin top as opposed to running the risk of freaking my body out by a fad that then caused me to gain weight.

I am viewing this largely as a lifestyle change.  I intend to continue with the water in as my main liquid of choice.   I intend to carry the information that I'm learning about food with me and eventually apply it to everyone in my house.  I do not intend on depriving myself - if DH says lets go for burgers I'm not going to not go but I'm going to eliminate fast food and those types of food as my "usual" and make them occasional.

I do not mind your soapbox . . . I learn when you hop up there wink

Amber- please know that i am not criticising the fact that you all are following these diets. I do a 14 day water only fast each spring- i have been doing this for 12 years now ( not when pregnantor bf'ing of course)- i love the detox feelings, how my body reacts, the energy i get. And it certainly give me a kick start and helps corrects any bad habits i started during the cold winter months! ( yes i do indulge too - i love my quarter pounders with cheese!, and wine, and hersheys dipped in jif... Lol) I think a detox is a GREAT way to kick start a better eating lifestyle. But, odds are somewhat against people in general making lifelong changes. And there is the problem with yoyo dieters gaining back more, i think it has a lot to do with the fact that people dont understand what they are doing to their body on diets, and how the body reacts before and after. I love the fact that many of you are getting off chemical beverages and drinking water- just doing that alone will drop pounds every year. I think people dont realise that zero calorie diet drinks actually make you gain weight over time because you retain water from the chemicals, and even though you are drinking your body actually is getting dehydrated. One thing i always do when i fast, in order not to obsess on all the amazing food i cannot put in my mouth, is to read and re-read about nutrition and fasting- i have books and articles. I research all the vitamin supplememts i take. I read about food and what are purposes and health benefits. I also did a lot of research for my bff, the one with the brain tumour which caused obesity who had gastric bypass, spent dozens of hours researching it to talk with her and help her- cause i know she would not do it herself. I wish i could share more of stuff like this, but i am afraid to bore you all or sound preachy. But i really really hope that you all reach your goals and if i can any way help i would love to!

And i think i was not fair to call these things "fads" - i guess i lack a better description. i guess i see thes things in trends wherethere us a new thing and groups of people do it at the same time- which is excellent for support ( i always fast with 2 friends for support too!), i hope each person is looking into it and understanding why they are doing it and what the purpose/ benefits are, as i think that increases the odds for long term success. So i apologise for using that term to describe this. i do not mean to say it is bad.

Amber - congrats on day 10

I think you're doing a great job . . .the eating, the exercise, the water consumption.

Do you have your packets for the next phase?  Eating plan?  I'd love to hear what you might add for the next phase.  I still haven't had time to research the food options thoroughly.  I'm pretty much planning to stick with what I've been doing, maybe introduce a bit of dairy and bread back in.

Morning ladies,

Great advice, Megan. I agree that nothing will be long term unless you learn and know what you are putting in your body. As someone who used more extreme methods to get the weight off. I totally get it. I had health on the mind when I did it. I had elevated blood sugars and the only way to get that fixed was to quickly get the weight off. I am pretty proud of myself for keeping it off too. Well, exception of a 5lb up and down.

I wanted to do this cleanse to give my body a break and restart eating well again. I started to turn to some bad habits again. Plus, my stomach was a mess and paying dearly from what I was eating. I have to eat very little dairy now :(

Anyway, I am bummed that my cleanse did not turn out to be a true cleanse. I have been sick and have had abx, cough syrup, etc. So, to me it really did not end up being a true cleanse. Sure, I lost weight, but that is what happens when you eat no carbs and only fresh/raw :) No magic there.

I do plan to do this again in another 90 days.

I totally didn't think that smile I promise. I appreciate you sharing because I am not good at this stuff. I haven't done that much research so i'm grateful for what you pass along, i'm really learning a lot! I don't think you are preachy, just wanting to share things you are passionate about. I think it was good for me to write out my feelings, I was really on a bad path with eating and i'm so proud of the steps I have taken. I kind of fell into a well I will just be happy overweight except I never got there lol. I find you helpful and thank you for sharing.

Thank you Kris smile I feel so good these days! Not even my first night shift tonight has me down. Already had my probiotics and my fiber drink. Easy peasy. Drinking a mr shake now. I get my packets tomorrow. I too plan to stick to pretty much what I have been doing, it's satisfying and it works. I would like to find an appropriate bread though and may add some dairy. What would you use for bread? I do have a grocery list of foods and I think a sample meal plan.

Have you ever heard of Trio bars? My sister just introduced them to me. 3 different nuts, 3 different seeds, and 3 fruits in a crunchy bar. SO good! They sell them at Costco.

I'm sorry it wasn't the experience you hoped for. Hopefully you are starting to feel much better. Rotten luck to get sick.

Like I said - not everyone would agree with me ;)

But, I stand by my initial statement (which I do not think is incongruous with yours Megan since I understood from the prior posts that no one here is eating so few calories they are cannobalizing muscle). My suggestion is just that you focus on the one first (diet and nutrition), to ensure that you have made a true change, before worrying too much about incorporating exercise, especially if you have never done it before, so as not to derail the whole lifestyle change. I agree though that exercising is important to a healthy lifestyle and building muscle etc.

I always try to buy the whole grain breads anyway - so I will just eat what I already buy for our household.

I've never heard of trio bars.  we don't have a costco near us but I have started going to Sams so I will look for those!

last night?!  that is forever!  I just placed an order this morning (I know you placed yours on a Friday too) so I will be interested to see when I get it.  In the past I always have it within 3 days.

I'm glad you are up and moving and feeling a bit better.  HOpefully no one else in your house will catch it!

Good morning ladies :) How is everyone doing?

I'm on day 2 of the 2nd phase. Feeling great, having no troubles. That is a lot of pills to swallow however! I am having a vanilla shake with strawberries in it, I cannot get into the vanilla thus far. Super since I just got a full box.

Working my two nights was ok, I didn't really know what to do so I just continued eating what I had been and when I was hungry. Great results so far.

 Hey Amber!

Glad you are having such an easy time.  Yes, it is alot of pills to swallow, for sure!  I like that it is all done by lunch though, that helps keep me going.

Today I bought frozen strawberries/bananas and frozen peaches.  I'm going to blend them up with a shake in the a.m. for breakfast.

I have started to walk and do the eliptical and some sit ups - just something every day.

I'm only drinking water (and still tons of it) and spark - sometimes only one of those a day.

How are you doing with the catalyst?

Yay there you are Kris ;)

I felt really dizzy yesterday after I took my pills, I was really hoping that wasn't going to be the norm! Today was much better. No idea if it was one of the sets of pills specifically that caused it. My sister said she had some dizziness in the beginning too.

I don't know what it is about the vanilla shake, the consistency is so different to me from the chocolate it's almost gel like LOL. I didn't have one today, I had chocolate.

Good job with the exercise. My new schedule threw me right off track. Irritating. I'm going to get a workout in tomorrow. I will do some situps etc tonight.

I drink so much water and usually have 1 spark sometimes two. I'm just about out of mandarin so I need to get some more of that. I'm good with the catalyst, just taking it when it says to. All I drink is water too, I don't really want anything else so that's good.

sorry I was mia . . . busy weekend.

I haven't had any dizziness with the pills.  just so many of them to take.

do you have a blender ball to  mix the shake in?  I was really not a fan of the berry the first couple of times b/c I would describe it as "fluffy."  Then I got a blender ball and it mixed up better.  and you can add more water if you want to change the consistency to one that is better tasting for you - don't have to just stick w 9 oz.

I put my meal replacement shake in the blender this am with water and frozen fruit.

holy moly did it go awry!

it tripled in volume . . and I'm not even kidding.  It turned into all foam.   I put it in 3 cups.

it became comical.  and eventually not even drinkable!

soooooooooo

new plan tomorrow.  I will put the water and the frozen fruit in the blender and blend those and pour THAT into my powder in my blender bottle and shake.  the actual shake mix really did not appear to be blender friendly (or I'm kitchen illiterate which is entirely possible!).

Just out of curiosity was it a vanilla shake? LOL. I love your story ;) I've been using a magic bullet for my chocolate so I used it for vanilla. I do have a blender ball so maybe I will try that with the vanilla, and adding some more water.

 Yes it was vanilla!

I don't have a magic bullet but looked at them on amazon yesterday.  not sure I want to spend $40 on one.

I was so bummed.  I ended up giving part of it to DH and I tried to drink another part but ended up pouring it down the sink when I go to work.  I blended in strawberries and bananas - it SHOULD have been soooo good!

I really like my magic bullet. I didn't pay for it though, my mil gave it to me. I don't use it for anything else either, like you see on tv you know salsa and guac and all that jazz it doesn't seem like it would work that well. I do love it's portability, I take it to work all the time. My co-worker says he likes his vanilla shake with banana and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'm still just amazed how different the chocolate and vanilla seem to prepare, I dunno. LOL.
