i know i can't give up my coffee or diet coke, so i'm just accepting that as part of my daily intake.

i usually drink 2 travel mugs (or 1.5) in the morning.

in the afternoon, i usually get a fountain diet coke.

i will just up my water to accommodate those weaknesses. :)

i've thought about trying to switch to diet soda but i just don't like the taste.  but, to ease the withdrawal from the caffeine.  how much water do you try to drink a day?  i have to ease to water because i don't drink water at all right now (yes, I just admitted that).  I usually drink tea when I give up soda.  (I have been down this road many a time and always failed.)

liz - I was the same way.  I would drink zero water all day.  I would have hot chocolate in the a.m.  a coke with lunch and milk for dinner.  nothing in between.  my brain realized that could not be good for me b/c there was nothing going in to flush anything out but it was so hard.

once I got started giving up the coke and drinking water it got easier.  I did find a big glass of water daunting (but I don't think I realized it) until I started buying these small 8 oz bottles.  I would initiall mix it with my energy drink but then I would just refill it all day long at work with water.  Everytime I finished one I'd put a tally mark on a piece of paper (crazy I know) but I felt victorious!   I was succeeding 8 oz at a time.  Before I knew it I was drinking about 6 of those a day at work - that got me well on my way to my daily intake of water!

it is small steps - you can't be too hard on yourself.

i know juni drinks coke zero sometimes.  have you tried that?  maybe that would be a better weaning tool for you than going to diet?

i have one of the BIG starbucks insulated cups with a straw and i fill it all day at my desk (when i'm being good).  i find if it's sitting right there with me, i drink it.  i also like to put lemon in it (or lime) so i keep that in my work fridge.  that cup is 24oz, so if i drink 3 i'm pretty stoked.  sometimes i can do more.  i really need to get one more for my house so i always have one around instead of taking them back and forth.

thanks april and kris!!
Kris, I def like the idea of starting small with the bottles. (It could be mentally with me as well, ie. i always have a soda on hand - this might be a good substitute.)

Yes, I think the zero sodas taste much better than the diet ones. Coke zero, cherry coke zero, vanilla coke zero. At first it will taste different, but I find now that I don't notice them tasting "diet" even though the diet ones still taste gross to me. Dr. Pepper just came out with their Dr. Pepper 10 and I really like that as well.

Definitely baby steps - you're going to fail if you go from that amount of soda to none. But I would recommend trying to find an alternative that you can manage and drink those instead. Once you are away from regular sodas start replacing them slowly with something else. If water is too much of a change, there are other options without calories or with few calories.

I think the wagon is dragging me at the moment. I'm sort of maintaining but I think work is keeping me busy enough to prevent me from gaining but I'm not doing well. I have not been on MFP. It really sucks because I do great up until I get home from work and then I lose it. I just eat like crap at night. I don't know what my problem is.

With all this halloween candy, I am not even thinking about trying to eat right at the moment. I think I am going to let the kids have their candy until wednesday and then get rid of it.

I need to get back on the eating better wagon. One good thing - I just finally got a bike at a garage sale. (Brand new for 40 bucks!!!) It is getting cold but I am excited to go out and ride it an am hoping that is how I can get some exercise in. I am really lacking in that department.

Let's get back in the routine of weekly weigh ins. Should we try to recruit and get going on a real round?

I would like a weekly weigh in. It helps keep me in check a bit. I have not moved much and like you have not been doing much.

I feel with haloween and the holiday season approaching that I need to keep in check. I gave up making excuses and try treat even the holiday like normal.

I hop on and off the wagon almost daily. Basically I have become pretty good about breakfast and lunches but lose focus and will power in the eves. I was successful on MF and consider myself still an MF success since I am only 7 lbs over my lowest and have maintained that for over a year. BUT I feel unhealthy ans bloated and my clothes are not fitting at all.

Im not on MF and dont plan to go back on it but when I am "on" I am following the principles i learned from it. Small meals, lower carbs, lower sodium MF really helped me realize how carb sensitive I am. I am trying to focus on reducing carbs -not crazy-just good choices. I need to cut out beer, ice cream and cheesy chips - lol- and add water.

I am signed up for a half marathon in January. Really hoping It will keep me focused on exercise through the winter. I usually go into hibernation for the winter.

They are set way too high. I changed mine to 40/30/30 c/f/p. Didn't you do the zone diet or something a long time ago? I think that is what their ratio is. I would try that and see how it goes.

i feel off the wagon this weekend
but i have been in a plateau for over two weeks so i made a the decision to have a day off to stir up my metabolism (that and that i was at a halloween party with marcos and ate appetizers). So i took yesterday off and had ice cream, rice and even some candy. I did not have a lot as my stomach could not handle a lot of food. but i felt sick afterwards...

so i'm back up at the waggon today...
i always let go when i'm near the goal so i decided not to let it happen this time. i'm only 8 pounds away from it.
so i started hard core this morning... i hope the headache goes soon...

I like to think I am always on the wagon, but sometimes I lose a wheel :)

I must stay away from the candy - I must stay away from the candy. Last year I did not have one piece. This year, not so sure.

I have fallen so far off the wagon it is unreal! I am totally back to the weight I was right after I had Nathan. I feel like crap! I have no energy again and am now on blood pressure meds. I really need to do something, but I am just having such a hard time getting myself together. I am going to try to keep up with checking in. I really need to increase my water intake again! I guess I could start there.

i'm sorry - i am just now seeing this. i though it was the taste, but then again, i hate flat soday so maybe it is the carbonation that I like?  not sure.  I should try seltzer water again - it's been so long since I did (like 10 years and I never tried it again).
