Patio Door Covering
Permalink

I washed my curtains for my sliding glass patio doors in my washing machine and they shrank.  I was going to have to replace them anyway, so I am not heart broken.  I do need to find a replacement and I will eventually be redoing the room.  It's a long narrow room with the dining room at one end the other end is the lvingroom.  I have a trilevel 70's house with wood floors and white woodwork.  Not sure it really matters, but there is a big stone looking fireplace on one wall and a picture window about the same size as the sliding patio doors.

So I am thinking of non fabric options.  I do not want verticle blinds either.  So far my ideas are to

A) Buy custom made faux wood horizontal blinds for the doors and windows

B) Make some type of sliding barn or wood panel for the patio doors.  Window could do the same or have the blinds.

Any other thoughts?

I hope I am attaching these.  The one picture is of the wall that has the slider and the big window and the other is the opposite wall that has the fireplace.  I am going to be redoing this room and we do not even have the green couch now.  The wallpaper is going (I know it is old lady looking but I liked it).  I have a pin of the couch fabric that is on the low sectional that is going in this room.  The dining table stays.  The colors will be blues/blue greens.

Does this help?

Unfortunately we do need to cover them. The houses behind us can see right in and it's kind of like being in a fishbowl after dark. I also don't want to blind anyone with my nakedness when I dart down the stairs to the laundry room. The way the walls are, I could run the bar across the entire wall an then move the panels over in front of the wall space. On the other hand maybe just having the simple wood blinds would be better. I really don't want curtains because I am fighting a fur battle right now. My cats like to lay and look out the windows and their fur is forever sticking to the fabric. Do you think the blinds would be better? Have any other ideas?

what about Roman shades? They could be dropped at night, but up during the day when people are going in and out raised up? The doors/window let in great light, and you seem to have a pretty private back yard so I wouldnt want them too covered up either.

Ok, just read your next post. nm :X  We have the same problem.  We back on to a golf course.  But ours are North facing, and we need as much light as we can get....

It's all ready on there.  It's a couch robert's parents had an we reupholstered it.  I have not done the back cushions yet.  I am not sure if I am going to do them in that fabric or a solid color.  I am thinking the boldness of the pattern could use a little taming.  Yes, I know it's a little loud, but I picked it on a whim.  I want to paint all the walls a nuetral beige/tan/taupe.  We have white woodwork.  I have some prints of builings that are more or less solid colors and are the same colors in the fabric.  Do you think I made a mistake with using that fabric on the couch?

I am thinking whatever I do to the windows needs to be fairly plain in color.  And here you thought it was just advice on windows.

absolutely think that you should do it all that fabric - and find ways to tame it down, like in your other chairs (maybe have them in a white linen with a small green pillow)  I think it is going to look great!! can't wait to see it :)

I like that idea.  I am going to check it out and make sure it's in our budget, but I think that would be perfect.  If we did a bifold I bet we could get it to fold flat against the wall to the side.  I cold probably do something similar with the window.  THANK YOU!

If the shutters don't work out, I might go for this.  I think they would tie into the room too and hopefully I can keep animals away from therm.  It also might be more withing our budget.  Darn money!
