I went and clicked on my friends commenting on photos and status updates of their friends I do NOT know in the scrolly bar. (I hope you can follow that sentence. Down a shot, April). I could not only see that specific photo and/or comment, but I could click onto their profiles and see walls, photos, and whatever else. Granted I do not know these people's privacy settings, but I do find that disturbing.

But Juanita that used to happen before the scrolly bar if the friend she was commenting to didn't have her settings set to private.

I need to do some testing myself.

All of those things you guys are talking about used to happen already. People's pictures who were not my friends were popping up in my news feeds all the time if one of my friends had commented on it. It was because that person who the picture belonged to did not have their privacy settings set to private.

The only difference now is that it's on that scrolly bar on the right-hand side in real time. I feel very confident that if one of my friends comment on one of my pictures that none of their friends that are not also my friends will see it because my privacy settings are locked up tight.

However, one thing I have learned to do everytime FB makes changes is recheck my privacy settings. I remember one time a long time ago where a change they made switched some of my stuff to non-private. Now I just check the settings frequently and test things out.

it's on the right side of the screen

if you're looking at facebook from your phone, it's not there, just on your pc

 Thank you. :)

I don't have a scroll anything on my Facebook page. I switched to DH's laptop (I'm on it now) and I have no scroll thingy. I checked his too. I guess maybe our privacy settings influence that? IDK.

Our FB pages are locked down. Only friends can see my stuff, we can't be searched for, etc. Maybe that influences the scroll thingy? I also have chat turned off.

Are you using an older version of your internet platform?  I was in the central office today using a much older version of IE, and facebook looked old school.  My privacy settings are now as tight as I can get them, but I still have the stalker bar (I know it is the same info...I just hate the real time overload)

that never, ever happened to me before..ever

i never got stranger's pictures in my news feed

it used to say "carmon posted on such and such picture", but the acutal picture NEVER showed up...

maybe because you could set your stuff to private in the privacy settings and be done with it..now you have to do it in the status bar as well and the girl today hadn't done that.

i think where people are losing the privacy right now, is because the "old" facebook, you could set your stuff to private in one place

now, you have to set it in the privacy settings (for your mobile phone) and then you have to do it in the status bar as well (the first time anyway)

I posted this on FB earlier but this is very helpful for those of you wondering.  Yes Chickies right only reason we see strangers pics r cuz theyre not set to private aka friends only or custom.

Ahh Juanita. Could you expand on changing your privacy setting on the status bar (assuming you're talking about the scrolly bar). How do I do this?

BTW thanks everyone. This is good info.

Hold up a minute!!! I think i owe facebook an apology! I just did a test- i posted a comment to one of jenn's photos. I saw she had it set to only friends. I saw my comnent on my wall. Then i logged out, and logged in under cecile's id, and i did not see my comment or jenns pic in ceciles scrollbar. Then i checked my wall (still logged in as cecile). And my comment to jenns photo did not show up in my wall logged in under ceciles id. So yeah, my photos appear to be private still. Whew!!! Sorry facebook ( even tho i still dont like how stalkerish you are becoming... I remain skeptical...) And i dont think this will stop me from making google+ my new site, esp as me and my family are big picasa users already and i use blogger too...

i checked last night, you're set to private

it's the little icon, to the left of the "post" button, which you've already done smile

I have IE 9. :) I updated recently but can't recall how recently it was.

i think that if every single FB user had their profiles and pics set to "friends only" then the ticker on the right would ONLY show you activity between friends from your friend list.

why every last person is not set to "friends only" on there, for everything, is completely beyond me.

i'm on google+ now but it's a bit dead.  i dont plan to give up on FB entirely.  you guys are on there, but only one of my IRL friends is there.  i hope it catches on more. my biggest FB gripe isnt so much the changes themselves, but seriously why the hell do they go out of their way to make things less private? they've done it in the past (changed everything on us without telling us, so we all have had to go in manually and fix 10,000 settings) - to me, it comes down to trusting the site.

btw, as a result of this, i plan to post a lot less on FB, google+, all of it.  it's just too much. everyone knows what my kids look like, anyway. lmao.  if i get a great shot, sure i'll post it - but especially with pics, i'm just feeling a little protective at this point.
