are most people who do laundry less having to go to the basement or the laundromat?

i wonder if the convenience of having the w/d accessible makes some of us willing to do it daily??

our 4th bedroom is the laundry room--it is on the top floor and is right next to my bedroom. when the kids are teenagers and really don't want to share a room, i *might* consider moving it to the basement, but for now this works best.

I pay through the nose to do laundry here at the university- but in exchange I can do up to 8 loads at a time.  I usually do laundry on Sundays in the summer, and Saturday nights during the school year (none of my drunks- I mean students- do laundry on a party night)

 lmao!!!

So true-there is never anyone doing laundry on friday, saturday, or even sunday (at least morning!) in college!!! (I used to go to a laundromat though-our dorms were limited in number of machines, so I prefered hauling it and being able to do it all at once too)

Anyway, yes Corey, ours is in the basement. And especially at this stage, I am not supposed to be carrying heavy things, so lugging the wash down is all I can do-Bill has to carry it back up for me, and it is just a hassle. And out of sight, out of mind I guess.

I also wonder how everyone deals with dirty clothes? We have a 2 bin hamper in our closet where we sort lights and darks, and the girls each have large hampers in their closets. Once those get full, I take the bags out and do wash. But I know some people have chutes, some have a central place for everyone's dirty clothes, etc. That might make a difference too. Usually the kids are the ones telling me their hampers are full and I need to do wash, lol.

I wouldn't like upstairs laundry, but I like the idea of main floor laundry. And I think if we had a chute and I had bins for sorting right there in the laundry room and all, the convenience of it would make it a lot easier to do it frequently. And I would like a dumb waiter to taking it back upstairs, lol. Hmmm...more things to add to my wish list for our new house!!! :D (Bill will love it, lmao-I keep adding things I want to include on our building plan, and he keeps telling me we need to keep it within reason!)

we have debated moving our laundry to the second floor (we have a HUGE master bathroom that would be perfect for it but it would take some work and money to get it ready which, at this point, is probably not going to happen :(

great question b/c i wonder too ;)  i have not found a good system.  however, the best one I have come up with thus far is leaving a hamper in ivy's bathroom, our bathroom and our bedroom.  then, i take those mesh laundry bags and sort the clothes and carry them downstairs.  it is the folding and putting away that I haven't gotten a good system yet.  it usually ends up all on my dining table and I HATE that so much.

ahhh how do you have only 2-3 loads per week?

We have 5 people in our family and we do laundry constantly.

And I'm like Melissa - better question is when are we not doing laundry.

For the most part John washes/dries/shoves in a basket all of the laundry.  My job is to fold and put away.  I'd rather wash/dry/shove in a basket evileye

Some weeks I'm not up for the challenge.  I do keep things separated - unders/socks in a basket, towels in a basket.  So if I'm behind putting it away at least the digging to find what you need is pretty minimal.

We wear our clothes 2 days unless they're visibly dirty or smelly before that.  We don't usually get that dirty.  We only wash towles every few uses, as well.  It's something my grandmother taught me, and it made sense the way she taught me.  Sheets are a big production around here (kids fighting over the sheets once their washed and refusing to re-make their beds...It's an all day affair) so I don't do those as often as most people, either.  Also all of my loads are super large loads.  I do laundry more now than I used to because as my kids get older their clothes take up more space.

How do I deal with dirty clothes? I have a 3 bin hamper at the end of my upstairs hallway. We all share it. It usually takes about a week to fill the lights and darks bins and two weeks to fill the whites bin.

I voted every other day but sometimes it is more or less then that.

We live on the second floor and the washer is in the basement, if it were closer I would do it every day whether it was full or not.

Right now we have no place to put dirty clothes. The kitchen has the door that goes down the stairs to the basement and I tend to throw stuff in the corner by the door. Joe leaves everything on the floor of the bedroom which infuriates me. We need to get a hamper for our room and one for Lucas.

Oh and I do towels once a week and sheets every few weeks (closer to once a month)

I do a load of Julia's clothes once a week. If she has a blow out I will throw the dirty clothes in with our load so it doesn't stain and then rewash it with hers.

Our washer and dryer are in a closet right off of the eating area of our kitchen.

We keep our dirty clothes in a basket right outside that closet, near the kitchen table. Or if it is something extra smelly or with food spills on it, it goes on top of the dryer. We also keep dirty clothes in our master bathroom because that's where we all shower, bathe, or change our clothes.

Then there are the random clothes in the kids' rooms. My kids, especially Mark, change clothes a gazillion times a day.

When we swim, I usually put the wet suits and towels into the washer immediately when we get home.

I do laundry every day. And it still is never finished.

Glen and I have some sensitive skin and rash issues so we try not to reuse bath towels.

I do it when the hampers get full. I do mine and Kent's together, Hannah's alone, and Mr. B's alone. B has pretty sensitive skin so he gets free and clear soap and fabric softener. I have never washed all of ours together it's just a habit that stuck I think from when they were little. So thinking about it every couple days for them maybe 3-4 at the most and then every 2-3 for mine and Kent's.

Once every day and even that doesn't seem often enough.  I don't have a big laundry room so I have to stay on top of it.
