I have no rhyme or reason to my laundry routine. Sometimes when I'm out of underwear. Sometimes I have the time. It really just depends. It's much more caught up in the summertime than during the school year.

I have no rhyme or reason either. The question at my house is more one of when DO I NOT do laundry. I feel like I am always doing it. I sometimes pick a day and do it all, but mostly I am always washing something. It is a crazy cycle. You would think we change clothes 5 times a day or something.

I am in the no rhyme or reason group. There are weeks I do a load every day. There are other weeks I am so busy I don't do it at all. One of the things that I have a hard time with is that my laundry room is tucked away in our basement and I get busy doing other things then forget the load in the washer. So as much as I don't like to admit it, I spend way too much time rewashing loads. :bag:

I used to do it a week. But now that we have our own washer and dryer, I do it wherever I have as load or we need some thing washed. I love the freedom!

I do laundry when the basket gets full. Usually, 2-3 loads a week.

I don't have much rhyme or reason either, but it usually ends up being about every other week. Or I'll do the kids' stuff one week and ours the other, or whatever.

I can't imagine doing wash everyday, Jennifer!!!!

Everyday, sometimes two loads a day! Between the baseball uniforms, bathing suits and towels, and "camp clothes", I seriously cannot miss a day. The laundry is ridiculous in my house!

On the upside, I now make all the kids put their own clothes away. I leave everything on their beds and it has to be put away by the end of the day.

ahhh how do you have only 2-3 loads per week?

We have 5 people in our family and we do laundry constantly.

And I'm like Melissa - better question is when are we not doing laundry.

For the most part John washes/dries/shoves in a basket all of the laundry.  My job is to fold and put away.  I'd rather wash/dry/shove in a basket evileye

Some weeks I'm not up for the challenge.  I do keep things separated - unders/socks in a basket, towels in a basket.  So if I'm behind putting it away at least the digging to find what you need is pretty minimal.

Ok, I am seeing some of the differences here...

we don't have sports uniforms

we do not wash bathing suits everyday

more like weekly-we just hang them to dry in between wearings

towels are usually biweekly (Bill complains like mad if I do it more often than that because he thinks it is a huge waste of water, lol)

sheets are biweeklyish as well-and Bill also complains about that, lmao. He thinks once a month is more than enough.

he doesnt put his work shirts in the wash until he has worn them a couple of times because he wears undershirts and swears that does the trick. Whatever. I don't smell an odor coming from him, but Istill think that is gross.

but since he has an office job, that cuts down

so I think we must wash things less frequently?

I mean, we change our clothes everyday and get new undies and all that, but the additional stuff is less often

and things like quilts and such? Forget it-they are lucky to see the washing machine every 6 weeks.

maybe we are gross, IDK!!!

we don't have sports uniforms either

i wash the sheets on 3 beds once a week

but i wash a load or two of clothes and/or towels every day

i will occasionally go every other day, but on those days i sometimes have 3 or 4 loads.

i'd rather just wash and keep everything up then spend an entire day doing laundry, like my mom used to do

plus, kenley changes clothes at least 3 times a day, and it's usually because she's gotten food, paint, or whatever on them, lol

usually every other day or every two days. i can get by with the every two days in the summer but in winter it is more like every other day.

and i am disregarding ball uniforms we are finally done with ball for the summer but there were times i was washing uniforms daily.

i usually have 3 loads each day i do laundry, lights, darks and towels.

i also cloth diaper so that is a couple loads a week as well.

alaina, how with a family yours size do you only have 2-3 loads?! i am in amazement!..lol

 Yes-seriously!!!

I DESPISE my washer and dryer, and so I avoid them like the plague, but really, we don't dirty a ton of clothes. And it seems most of you wash linens and other things more frequently than we do.

The girls wear one outfit a day. Period. It is a rarity that they change. And when they were younger and messy, I made them wear bibs-MUCH longer than most other kids did. They get clean pjs every other night on bath night. Unless they have a massive spill or something (which rarely happens), they don't need to change during the day.

I usually wear pants at least twice, but now with the maternity things, I would say I double that is I can-I just don't have very many clothes right now. Tops I aim for at least 2 wears, but I end up spilling on my belly a lot these days. I only have about 4 pair of pjs atm, so needless to say, I am wearing those as long as I possibly can between washings.

Bill wears his after work clothes for days-unless he runs, he will wear the same shorts for a week every evening, and same goes for his tees (he only runs in shorts). Most of his laundry is socks, underwear and undershirts-at least twice the number of undershirts as other types of shirts. (he isn't home for very many hours, in all fairness, so he doesn't wear those clothes for long each day-and he sleeps in his underwear, so no pjs to dirty)

I can't see using a towel once. Honestly, I just can't. If the kids get out of the bath and use a clean towel, it still smells like detergent. I would not wash towels that often, truly. I don't use dish towels for much because we let hand wash dishes air dry, and I use clorox wipes for cleaning up most of the time. Only the kids use wash cloths (Bill just uses the bar and I use a poof), etc. IDK-when I do wash every other week, I would say I have about 5-6 loads to do and I try and cram it in one day. I hate laundry so much that I would much rather let it build up and do it all at once than do it everyday.

Maybe one day when I have nice, new appliances, I will feel differently!!!

Oh, and also-when they DO spill or get filthy, unless it is something that needs treated immediately, I don't pre-treat. They toss their crap in the hamper and then when I do the wash, I go through each piece of clothing and scrub out stains before putting them in the wash. (or let them soak if they need to)

And I NEVER do anything less than a chock full load. Unless someone pukes and I have no choice. If I only have a partial load, I won't do it. Which, of course, pretty much never happens because I don't do laundry often enough to have that problem, lmao! Usually Bill and I have a load of whites and a load and a half of darks, and the girls have the same. Then I will do a load of towels/sheets/whatever.

when i was recovering from breaking my leg, i couldn' t really get down the basement stairs so I took all the laundry to the laundromat and did it all in about 3 hours.  This is how i did it when growing up (we never owned a washer and dryer and I started doing our whole family's laundry at the laundromat when i was 9).  I despise laundry!!  and partly because i hate our basement and we need a new washer and dryer...ours are old :(  I'd rather just do it all once a week.

eta that if i had ANY of these laundry rooms, I would change my tune ;)

supa, yeah, you're definitely just wearing your clothes longer than we do.

kids get one outfit per day, but they also only wear their pjs once. jake is still in a pull-up, so i won't let him re-wear and emily refuses to wear underwear to bed, so again, worn once.

i only wear clothes once - jeans maybe twice, but after that i just find they're too stretched out.
