I'm in a bit of a dilema right now. I am 5 weeks into a 14 week pilates course and then last week found out I'm pg with #3, Anyway, so I mentioned it to the instructor on tuesday night that I would probably be taking it easy with a couple of the positions but I thought I would be ok with most of it. And she said that I could do that night but that I should call and get myself withdrawn from the course because it makes her real uneasy when pg people do pilates cause there is lots of clenching/tightening of your tummy/core area. So I was all set to cancel it but yesterday I went for an OB appt and he said he didn't understand that and that any kind of non strenuous excersise was good and so long as I wasn't boxing or doing a contact sport I would be ok.
My googling found that pilates is great for pg because it helps strengthen the parts that are going to be bearing all the extra weight, but to make sure it is a prenatal pilates.
So I figure the instructor knows more about pilates than my OB but that he knows more about pg and me.
Do you think I should carry on going to class or do you think I should withdraw?
First - I want to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! What wonderful news!!
Next - I think this is going to come down to a comfort level. Personally, I'd go with the OB over the instructor but if you think you won't be comfortable (ie: worry the whole time) then I'd probably drop the class.
if it were me, i'd withdraw from the class just to not have that insructor. what a bonehead. i'd find another instructor who knows what she's talking about.

Congratulations, Lucy!!!!!!!!!!!! What wonderful news!!!!!!!
ITA with April-I would look for another instructor-you don't need to deal with that!! but I would take the OBs advice about the exercise. When I was pg with Kate, I was seeing a trainer who was supposedly trained in pregnancy, but she pushed me SO HARD that I ended up lightheaded and spotting. I expressed my concern to her and she basically told me I needed to suck it up and that the baby would be fine. Needless to say, I stopped seeing her. So I don't think that people in the fitness community always know what is best when it comes to fitness and pregnancy.
Good luck!!! I think staying active is a great thing, so I hope you can find an instructor who is willing to support you!
Thanks ladies, I'm trying to not think too much about it yet, just in case, 6 weeks is just so early. I will pull out of the class, I don't think I could be truly comfortable if I think she doesn't think I should be there. Thanks again :)
