yeah i'm in the minority here when i say i pretty much don't care about the kids parties.

i don't feel the need to impress them. they are happy (for now) whether we have a party at a party place with a fancy cake or a gathering here at home with friends and family with a target cake.

if i get a good idea, fine. if not, oh well. a decorated cake will make them happy.

we had jake's party at monkey bizness and it was fine. kids jumped and ran. kids ate. kids colored.

emily's party will be here at home with some local friends. i'm going to let her pick out a cake at target next time we go and i will build a theme around that (for plates, etc). she's leaning toward tangled.

RE the red

I think some of us do it not to impress, but because it's fun!

(At least for some of us, apparently... LOL)

 OOPS.

michelle, thanks for pointing out that this could sound like it's about those moms who DO like doing it.

my post was totally about me and not about those of you who LOVE to throw the parties and put together all the details.

sorry if i offended anyone.  probably bad choice of words above.

i definitely do it because i love love love theming parties. it is like a sick addiction. my kids definitely would be happy with a cake and a pinata, but for some crazy reason  making lists of themed ideas for six months prior brings me some twisted sense of joy;)

This will be Mary Beth's first year having a party with friends.  We've always just done a family party (which we're still doing on her real birthday.)

Her party is tomorrow.  I really didn't do much planning - we're having it at GattiTown.  They do all of the set up, food, etc.  I just sent out the invitations and paid for it.  The plan was to do it before Beatrice came, but obviously that didn't pan out.  smile  So Malachi is staying home with the baby tomorrow while I go to the party.  My mom and dad will be there to help.  I should only be gone for 2 1/2 hours, but I'm pretty nervous about it!  Beatrice is on an apnea monitor and breast milk.  Malachi is VERY nervous.  I just felt like I cannot miss MB's birthday party because she has been looking forward to it for months.

I hope this thing goes well!  There are only 10 k ids coming, including Mary Beth and Katie Lenn, and we'll have 4 adults to help out....

I love this thread every year!

Lucas is having a Captain America birthday party. C.A. is his favorite super hero and we've pretty much had the theme nailed down since his last birthday. It just so happens that the movie comes out a week before his birthday. I actually need to get around to deciding the date since his birthday is a month away (July 27th) We'll have a pool party at my parents' house just like we do every year. Everyone seems to enjoy it and my parents usually buy the food as his gift and my friend who is a cake maker makes his party as a gift. We'll probably just do hamburgers and hot dogs.

Usually the only expense we have to pay for are decorations and paper goods. I'm sure I can get some red, white, and blue things on clearance after the 4th of July. I've already bought all of his birthday presents too. I got him a new bathing suit, towel, and PJs all Captain America. I also got him the "Super Hero Squad" wii game. Oh and when I was at Disney this weekend I found a Captain America shield. He's ALWAYS wanted one so he will probably go CRAZY for it.

I'm not doing a theme this year. I just didn't have the energy, time, money, mental focus to do anything super this year. Reading everyone elses answers are kinda making me feel bad. LOL. Oh well. Last year we went to Pump it Up. Andrew wanted to go there again, so I said ok. It's $250, YIKES, for up to 26 kids, but I've been saving, haven't gotten him a ton of birthday gifts, and I don't have to stress about anything but the guests. They provide napkins, plates, decorations, amuse the kids...

We are having his party Sunday. Saturday was all booked up. His birthday is July 1, so it makes it hard with the 4th of July holiday so close. There are always people on vaction, and now some aren't coming because of Church. What is driving me nuts is that only a few people have RSVP. Seriously, how hard is it to call or even FB me to say yes or no. Please people, it doesn't take that much time!!! Andrew keeps asking me if certian people are coming and I have to tell him IDK.

He picked out a Star Wars cake at Von's, the goody bags have trucks on them, and have an assortment of toys and stickers in them. We're using whatever plates PIU has. For food, we went to the Farmer's Market tonight and let him pick out what fruit he wanted at his party. He picked blueberries, cherries, pluots, watermelon, oranges, and saturn peaches.

On his actual birthday, we may go to the zoo, and we'll give him the presents that we got him.
