i know it's early - school supply lists
Permalink

hey girls.

i know school just let out (and in some places isn't out yet) but emily's school posted the supply lists for the fall.

i'm blown away by what they expect from each parent.  this is the full-day kindie list (if you haven't heard, we decided to hold emily back and have her do FDK as opposed to half-day like she did this past year).  i'm thinking this list of supplies is going to cost us about $30.

thoughts?

Wow. Our school just asks for you to pay a fee for kindergarten. I think it was around 30 but it covered supplies, milk fee and field trips.

i wish they did that here.

we don't have a milk fee - they have to provide their own snacks (and those in full-day have to buy their own lunch if they choose not to bring from home).  field trips are separate and i think they cost us about $20 this year.

Wow that is quite a list! This is Joe's list:

4 - Boxes 24 CT. Crayola Crayons

1 – 7” 12 CT. Crayola Twistable ColoredPencils

6 - Pink Bevel Erasers

1 - 1” Hardback Vinyl Binder

2 - 100 CT. Black Marble Composition Book

24 - #2 Ticonderoga Pencils

5 – Hard Plastic Pocket Only Folders

2 - Green Expo Dry Erase Markers

2 – Blue Expo Dry Erase Markers

Standard Letter Clip Board

I'm sure at some point they will ask for each kid to bring some clorox wipes or tissues or something like they did last year but it doesn't seem so bad when they just request a couple things they are short of.

36 glue sticks? Insane.

If I remember, the list was similar last year right April? Because I thought yours was insane lol. I can't remember ours but it was all of the basics, some folders, tissue, hand sanitizer and Kleenex. In fact, I sent like 4 boxes of crayons and they sent em home lol.

that list is just crazy!!

here kindergarten the pta provides their art box for the first year. the teacher will randomly ask for things via newsletters that go home but it is never real expensive.

after kindergarten you do provide all supplies but even bryce's list are never anything compared to that.

Our school provides everything up to grade 4. Then it is still small. Middle school then gets more expensive. However, it is a tuition based school and I am sure alll calculated in tuition. Full lunch is covered in tuition also.

That is very much in line with our lists. I think this year Logan needed 70 sharpened pencils! Buying and organizing school supplies for all three of my kids is a task, let me tell ya!

That list is very similar to ours as well. But our school sells the pre made packets for each grade, or you can buy the items yourself. (some things are not included and you have to purchase, which were on a separate list-things like the individual items that each gender had to bring and such)

We have to order our supplies from the school (for those going that route, which we definitely are) by Monday I think, and 1st grade's list is $32 I believe. I haven't seen any other lists for "extras" yet though. We'll pick up the stuff in August.

Wow! I had to buy an Earth Science book and a couple Japanese books this year. Total of about $60. We already have the other supplies we need.

What happens to all the scissors do you think? I mean I can understand that they need new pencils and crayons cause they get used up but scissors should still be good right? When I looked at Joe's list for 1st grade I had thought maybe they just passed them up from K, cause he doesn't have any on his list. But when I look at the regular 1st grade supply list they have scissors on there.

 good question.

i'm not sure if the older grades have scissors on there.  i'm guessing some get lost/broken/thrown away.  maybe they donate them to the art room?  idk.

crazy.

I helped out at Jake's school last week for an event and I had to go in the Kindergarten supply room to return something.  I almost fell over when I walked in - there were HUNDREDS of foam bowls, storage bags in sizes from snack to 2 gallon, plastic spoons, knives and forks,  paper sacks, sytrofoam cups, kleenex, paper plates.

I could not believe how much was left over (this was the last day of school I was in there) and they will be requesting more for the upcoming year.

I do remember sending in a ton of glue sticks (and they required the JUMBO size not the little ones) and them requesting more mid-year.

Looking at our Kindergarten list this year it doesn't seem unreasonable:

backpack

3 boxes of 24 count crayons

8 jumbo glue sticks

8 expo dry erasers

2 boxes kleenex

then you pick three:

paper towels

quart bags - quarter, gallon, 2 gallon or snack

paper lunch bags

plastic forks or knives

dixie cups

My kids each bring home a pair of scissors at the end of each year.
