Now that we moved, I want to get our art and craft supplies more organized.

Ethan has a TON of crayons, pencils, markers, paint and brushes, chalk, glue and glitter pens, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, stickers. Plus different colored and sizes of paper, coloring books, work books, etc, etc.

We also have an easel with paper and white board on one side and chalk board on the other.

He wants me to get him fuse beads but I refuse until we have a system in place.

In my dream world, the art stuff will stay on one side of the living room (it's pretty big) with the easel and a small kids table so the kids can do their projects there.

What system do you guys have? I'd love to see pictures too.

I am anxiously watching this thread. Our current system involves 1) a pile of crap behind a chair in our living room and 2) another pile of crap on one of our counters.

I would also love to know where to purchase any organizational containers people use. It seems like Target has like one or two, but not realyl what I am looking for.
This is definitly on my to do list.

i have this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80153800 with the pull out drawers. it is perfect. ikea has so many storage units, but i found the bins on most were too large. the ones you put in this one are small enough that you don't need to dig to find what you are looking for.

i have several other shelving units because we have so much craft stuff, but that one holds the majority of it.

I don't actually have a "system" yet.  but here is my inspiration picture from PBK- I saw the art clips at target and target also sells similar storage.

that is an awesome set up from pbk, liz.

i used to use canvas bins like those, but they are a pain to clean the insides of if you drip glue, glitter, etc...just something to consider before you spend the $.

i wonder if they sell plastic bins? or if the ikea bins would fit in that unit?

Corey - I like your system too! The only problem I see is that if my kids can SEE the craft stuff (especially paint), then they'll want to use it. Right then. I prefer our stuff out of sight.

ok thanks. I actually need something like that in the kitchen. I don't have a pantry and I like to keep the kitchen stocked.

thats funny. see, mine are the opposite--if i have it hidden away it is more of a novelty and they try to sneak it out. when i have it easily accessible and they use it often the allure isn't really there to use paints without permission, etc. they are actually really good about asking first because they know they need me to put down the special table cloth, etc.

for everything other than paint they pretty much have free reign to take it out as they please.

I also love that IKEA setup!!!! We don't have space for that in this house, but once we find a house and move, I will be remembering that and taking a trip to IKEA for sure.

Mine are like Robin's though-out of sight, out of mind. When they see the paints and such, they want to use them.

They do get the markers and crayons out whenever they want though-those we keep in plastic bins on the bookshelf by the easel in the basement. It isn't great, but everything is organized-crayons in one, markers in another, then we have others for stickers, beads, etc. It does keep things together and in one spot, but a system like yours would be ideal in a playroom with a table for them!!!
