So we had Raym in underwear since last friday. He hadnt been really getting it but was liking his underwear and would sit on the potty if wed give him a cracker or something. Now he screams no potty no potty when I want him to sit.

He was praised when he wwent in the potty and would even say IT WORKED!
when he saw it in the potty but now he seems frightened.

hell be three in two weeks. I finally caved and put him in a diaper today.  I dont want PT to be a miserable thing for him.

Any advice

Sounds a lot like Tristen.  We had to back way way off and just didn't talk about it for a long time.

At 3.5 he would sit on the potty in his diaper.  We took that as a sign.  Then we made a potty chart that had Thomas Trains along the way (every ten times he went he earned a train).  By the third train and less than a week later, he was completely trained.

Both my boys just didn't catch on until 3.5.

I would say don't stress about it.  I did try at least 5 times with Van within a 9 month span.  He is 3 years and 8 months old now and was just potty trained finally a month ago!!  Van had the concept down a long time ago but just kept doing diapers or being lazy or just not ready.  But recently it just struck him and he's been great since and even stays dry at night while my almost 6 year old still wears pull ups at night cuz she pees at night (shes a heavy sleeper).

ditto the others.

this happened to my bff with her oldest son. he was just upset to the point where one day he walked into the kitchen with his wiggles underwear and said, "i don't want these anymore" and threw them in the garbage. she backed off and waited 2-3 months. then, when they tried again he was trained in like a day and a half.

i think that he's just not ready.

I don't have much advice. It's slow going over here, though we haven't tried super hard. He's peed a total of 2 maybe 3 times but it's just not there for him yet so i'm not pushing it at all. Bryson will be 3 in May. I remember Hannah going through something like you mentioned though and she flat out refused to go on the potty so we backed off for a couple months then approached it again and it worked. We used a potty bag with all kinds of little trinkets, toys, m&m's etc. I was worried she would stop going once we stopped the prizes but it just clicked for her and the prizes went away.

I agree, I don't think he's ready yet. It is super frustrating, but it seems like when they are older, once they are ready, they PT super fast. Or at least that was my experience. Gavin was about 2 months over 3 years old when he finally potty trained and he did it in a weekend - was dry night and day since then.

Totally trying this. Lance will be 4 in May and is still not consistently using the potty (even though I know he CAN) and it's driving.me.batty.

Thanks everyone. Its nice to know Im not alone. With his diagnosis I was afraid it meant he wouldnt be potty trained till like 8, but it seems normal then.

I would also hold off. I have early potty trainers but with what he is doing it sounds like he is totally not ready.

I agree he may not be ready.

I just want to throw out there that Rhys became way more amenable to it when we changed potty's from the ones we used with Kiera. They were too small for Rhys, and uncomfortable, and I had to make sure his "guy" was tucked under him. He did not ever want to go and I didnt blame him!

Sitting on our toilets was also dificult for him - to balance, or to feel secure, his legs fall asleep easy (not sure what that is about, it happens to him alot in different situations) and I had to be right there to help him "aim."

We have a froggy potty now. Once we got it, he became super comfortable going on it, liked the froggy, and required alot less help, so, I wasnt nearly as lazy taking him. He just drops his pants and straddles it and goes.

Something to consider and its pretty inexpensive. Since you have more kiddos who might use them down the road.
