so about 2 weeks ago, i started noticing that when i swallow food/drink, i feel like there's an obstruction in my throat. it's right in the middle and the way i would explain the location is right below where my adam's apple would be if you could see it.
there's no pain at all - no scratchiness, i haven't been sick and it doesn't feel swollen. it just feels like there's something in the way.
i know that's random, but as it has gone on, it's concerning me more. it's probably nothing, but i'm going to make an appt this week to have someone take a look.
any thoughts on what could be causing this and lasting so long?
Interesting. Definitely let us know what they say. This happens to me but only sometimes. I will be eating and then it feels stuck and I have to wait a bit and it just feels super awkward. But it doesn't happen all the time.
I am glad Melissa had some input!! When will you go to have it checked out? Keep us posted. I hope whatever it is (hopefully nothing!) is a quick fix for you.
i think i have had this a few times. and when i grab my windpipe between 2 fingers and gently wiggle it from side to side it kinda crackles (hard to explain)
my osteopath fixes it - it is cause when my neck is out of wack, usually when i am stressed.
I was thinking thyroid too. I have lots of issues with my thyroid and I get this sensation often when it is not functioning properly. Do you ever feel like you have a hoarse voice some days? I get that quite often as well. Let me know if you have any questions.
I hope whatever it is will be an easy and quick dx for you. I'm glad you made an appt to check it out.

yes. this is one of the clues i had that something was weird a few months ago.
i used to get it all the time, but i assumed it was from talking so much when i was teaching. but i still get it so that can't be the reason.
I was also going to say thyroid. I have an underactive thyroid and I get that feeling too. Your thyroid is actually lower than your adam's apple though, and that is where I feel mine.

Probably thyroid April but I'm just guessing of course based on the little clues you've given. You might have a small goiter or nodule(s) pressing on you throat causing the discomfort. Be prepared to do some bloodwork.
