Freaking out a little bit
Permalink

Some of you might remember I posted a while back about getting pregnant using the withdrawal method, well on the Planned Parenthood website it says pre-ejaculate DOES NOT contain sperm so we have not been using anything and my husband pulls out way ahead of time. My periods are normally 25-27 days apart, never more than that, well today is day 29 and I what I think is a period but it is very light and brown, I am waiting until tommorow to see if it gets heavier. My question is could I still get a period and be pregnant?! I am crampy and it feels like a regular period so I don't think I am but it is in the back of my mind until I start bleeding a little heavier. What do you ladies think?

I think that you could definitely have bleeding/spotting and be pregnant. What I thought was a period turned out to be some bleeding with my pregnancy with Owen.

I think it is surprising that pp would provide such gross misinformation on something that basic and important relating to their field of expertise. Shocking!

I'd freak out a little too, because there are so many differenet studies about pre-e...some say it doesn't contain sperm, some say it does, so it's very confusing.

Hopefully, your period will come on and come on in, if that's what you want.

While I think you could be, I would just test.  Much less stress.  I would actually suggest going to PP, and getting the test and some very affordable actual birth control if you are not looking to become pregnant at this time.  There is nothing effective about the pull out method.

(Sorry if this sounds snippy.  It truly isn't meant to be.  But really, if you aren't looking to be pregnant, there are much more reliable methods that are far less financially taxing then a newborn).

I agree with Jenn-I would take a test. If your period is actually late, you should be able to get an accurate result and you won't have to keep stressing over it. You can get tests at the Dollar Store so you don't have to break the bank, or go ahead and go to PP.

From what I have heard, which could be wrong, it is unlikely to conceive with withdrawl if your partner is very aware and pulls out in time, but it isn't fool proof at all. Also, if you have sex, then have sex again in a relatively short amount of time, there can be sperm left from the last ejaculate that comes out with the pre-e during the second go round. It is not considered a tremendously reliable method of birth control, so I second the notion that if you really want to avoid getting pregnant, there is probably a better method out there. I have heard sponges are good if you don't want something hormonal and don't like condoms.

Good luck!

Um.... just to clarify, pull out method does not work. I had some fertility issues prior to my ds. We tried and nothing happened. We moved and the timing was not good, so we did the pull out method just to be safe. That would be why I have a son now.

wow, i'm surprised i haven't gotten pregnant then smile i always knew it wasn't super effective, but thought it would be pretty hard to get pregnant that way.  i wanted to get pregnant though, so i never cared.

I did call Planned Parenthood when I was laid off and they did not have an afforadable programs in my area at that time, which I could not believe, she said they did not have any funding and it was going to be $250 for me to be seen.

Where do you live? Your city does not have a health dept? Most health dept. help with birth control.

Yes our city does have a health dept but I did not think to go there, plus if they went on income I am sure we would make too much, as they always look at what you have coming in before taxes and not what you have going out after you pay all your bills.

well, not really. It is worth the try. I mean if you do not want a child right now in your life, it is much cheaper to pay 50 for birth control then thousands for a child?

gotcha, I had thought $$ was the issue and that is why even though you said you were going to get birth control, I thought you still may want to check out the health dept since it may be cheaper for you.

No, thankfully my insurance is really good and I don't have to pay anything for preventative care so my check up will be free and then I just have to pay for my birth control which should be maybe $10 per month.

 so i'm just curious....

why are you already not on birth control if you have good insurance and it wouldn't cost much?

I am confused then too? I thought money was the issue. Why else look into planned parenthood, etc. I guess I misunderstood.
