Cupcake Girls/Bakers help please!

my sister's wife is due in april and her wife's sister and i are in the beginning stages of planning the baby shower.

this is my SIL's first shower since my sister carried their first baby, so i really want to make sure it's special.  she feels like her pregnancy is getting overlooked b/c it's THEIR 2nd baby, if that makes sense.

the shower is going to be pink and browned themed with monkeys (b/c that's how her room will be).  we're probably using these invites:
http://www.tinyprints.com/product/15756/studio_basics_baby_shower_invitations_cheeky_monkey_princess.html

so a few things i need advice about...

first, my sil's sister is freaking out about the "2nd baby shower" thing b/c she thinks it's rude.  i'm ok with it, but i thought we might be able to do a theme shower to keep the peace.  any suggestions for that?

second, i'm not sure if there is any creative wording to use for the invites since they're obviously a same sex couple. i was thinking something along the lines of 'help us welcome becky and tara's new baby monkey' but someone else is probably more creative than i am.

3rd, i saw these cupcakes on flickr and i'm wondering if i could do the faces.  cupcake girls, how hard would these be?  http://www.flickr.com/photos/cupcakeology/3541799790/

tia!

Those cupcakes shouldn't be bad. The eyes and ears even look like wilton melting wafers, so really your decorating time wouldn't be bad. Second showers (and third and fourths) are not uncommon anymore, and especially in their situation, I don't think it's tacky.

As far as the wording... tons of possibilities, just depends on how themed you want to go, "We're already bananas about Baby xxxx, so join us as we honor Becky and Tara..." or "Monkey around with us as we honor..." but because there are monkeys on the invite, you don't have to necessary feel obligated to use monkey wording anyways.

Can't wait to hear how it all comes together!

Great suggestions!  You could also say help Becky and Tara welcome their baby... or if you want Becky to really get the billing you could put something like, Becky's baby is on the way and there is no time for monkeying around....

I think the monkey theme is a great idea.  Take pictures!  I know it will be adorable.

Oh... if you did a night time monkey theme you could have a blast...

Books-
Curious George
Goodnight Gorilla
No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Sleepers and Jammies
Blankets
Soothing music
Crib toys/soothers
Pacifiers

You could even play some shower games like who can swaddle the monkey the fastest blindfolded; Name that lullabye; give everyone a little monkey and if they get caught saying the word night by someone they lose their monkey, identify the "monkey business" in the diaper using various candy bars....

I am on my phone now but the eyes and ears I'm almost positive are wafers. They should be in the baking section of any craft store. We don't have Michaels, but I've seen them at all the others. And doing the fondant mouth should be easy, or you could always use Muffy's wax paper/melting chocolate trick, which I actually love a lot more than fondant, and since it's just an oval that you'd need to make it'd be super simple.

I dont think its rude at all to have the 2nd baby shower at all!  I see many of these showers these days so it wouldnt be a biggie to me its only the 2nd.  There are many ways to do a shower anyhow not requiring gifts like donating a whole bunch of diapers and things they would REALLY need.  We did a parent shower for my 2nd with my family to focus on the parents instead as i had most of the baby stuff just needed boy stuff here and there but not a biggie plus I had the MS shower from you guys heart.gif and my friends threw a shower for me as well.

I think those invitations are so cute!!  The cupcakes definitely don't look hard to do.  If you dont do wafers/fondants you can always get creative and use mini oreos face open with cream on it for eyes, and other stuff.

Can't wait to see what ideas you come up with!!!

Have you seen the book What's New, Cupcake? http://www.amazon.com/Whats-New-Cupcake-Ingeniously-Occasion/dp/054724181X

I haven't made anything in it but we had so much fun looking at it when we had the book fair at school. Beautiful and looked like easy cupcakes.

I'm keeping my eye on this thread because we are doing Abby's bday monkey themed too. Those cupcakes look awesome!

And no, do not think it is rude at all to have another baby shower! It's also to celebrate the mom's pregnancy and this is her first. I'm so happy for them!!!

I made monkey cupcakes for mias 1st and used mini vanilla wafers cut in half for ears and a big one cut in half for mouth. If you check out my photo album on fb for mias 1st you can see them.
