I know that its a bit too early on in his formal education to say one way or another whether this will be an issue but I noticed something when helping Colin with his homework the past 6 weeks since I took over homework duties that had me raising an eyebrow or two.
For example- Colin was writing the number 14 only he wrote it 41. He writes several numbers and a few letters backwards. He writes his p backwards, his 3 is backwards, his 5 and 2 are also the same. Two digit numbers are mixed up and he tends to drop letters when reading high frequency words. We brought this up to his teacher who said she had noticed the number issue. She said she'd talk to the learning disability specialist at the school and see if this is something to look into- Otherwise, she said he's a bright child who is very smart. I never doubted that but I just want to make sure that if there is an issue its addressed quickly so it doesn't hamper his learning. He loves school and I don't want anything to get into the way of that.
So, do you think that there might be cause for concern here? Or that its something that will be worked out in time?
i did number reversals till a pretty old age (probably 5th grade). it had no impact at all - eventually i just became aware of it so i always double checked - ie, i never did my math homework super quickly and always checked it over to make sure i didnt reverse anything - it didnt interfere with my conceptual understanding at all. i didnt have the issue with letters (though i'm sure in K i was reversing b's and d's like most kids do - probably a backwards e and s here and there too). my nephew writes full on backwards - right to left, letters reversed- they're not worrying yet (he's almost 5).
by the way, i still have to double check my numbers - especially if i'm reading a phone number - i'll often get it backwards and have to redial. it only happens when i'm distracted or going too quickly (ie, all the time - lol).
At times, mason Will write entire words as if you were looking into à mirror. It does worry me à bit, but i also find it incredible. He has the same issues you have described too. From what I can find, you shouldn't worry for another year or two. So, I'm trying not to worry, lmao.

That is very normal for this age too. I don't know what it is but it seems to be so natural. Owen even does it and it seems weird because it seems like it would be harder to do it that way.

Ethan sometimes does this too. It's weird but I've heard it's normal at this age.
