I LOVE naming babies! :) DH and I were having a terrible time coming up with boy names we both liked. DH's name is Malachi, and I wanted to name the baby that if it were a boy - but he's 100% against that. Then, one evening I was reading an article about Carly Simon, talking about her grandson Bodhi. I loved it. DH liked it, and now loves it. So, if it is a boy his name will be Bodhi Alva (Alva after DH grandpa who raised him.)
In all likelyhood though it will be a girl. I do not LOVE any girl names at this time. I was set on Meghan, but DH wasn't loving it. We have narrowed it down to two names, I like them both.....but I really can't decide between the two. SO, I'm doing a poll. Which do you like better? (And I know neither of them really go along with my other two girls' names.) Ruth and Anne are family names.
I'm not giving the option of "neither" because if you hate them both I don't care to know. :)
Well, my friend's mom's name is actually Ruthann (one word), so that's one reason. I also have this thing with first names ending in the -ie/-y sound. I don't know why..... I know I could call her Ruthie, but I just don't love it as first name. I think of that Ruthie girl from The Real World way back.
Bodhi is pronounced BO-dee. Like Brody/Brodey without the R. The first time I remember hearing this name was something about the actress Jenna Elfman's husband, Bodhi Elfman. There is also a surfer named this, but he spells it Bode. I've seen several different spellings, but I like Bodhi best, my brother says I would have to go with Bode - but to me this would be mispronounced even more because it looks like abode, without the "a"....
I voted Ruby Anne. I just think it sounds very classy and beautiful. My cousin just named his little girl Ruby. I hadn't heard that name in ages and loved the sound of it.

i love it too - i've been hearing a lot of it around here though.

This is one concern I've had, it is definitely gaining in popularity. I don't mind my kid having a fairly common name, I just don't want there to be 5 little girls named Ruby in her K class....
I'm actually leaning toward Penelope, but DH prefers Ruby. AND, all three of my little girls (if this is a girl) will be born in July, for which Ruby is the birthstone. I thought that would be kind of cute....
My only problem with Penelope is that there aren't any nicknames that I love for it - Nelly, Penny, etc.

oh i know, i thought about ruby for a middle name bc of rachel's july bday too - love the idea. there's one ruby in R's kindergarten, one in her ballet (she's a year younger, it's a 4-5 yr class), and i know of 3 rubys who are 2 and under. it's SUCH a cute name, but yeah, it seems to be the it-name around here right now.
Barbie I will keep an eye out on the births in the paper to see any Ruby's, Penelope's or Bodhi's. We get it on Sunday. ;)
Thanks! :) I went to CourierPress.com and did a search for "ruby" to see if it brought up any birth announcements, all it brought up were several obituaries.... It seems as though it was an extremely popular name 75-80 years ago!
