Paint colors.

Our walls are disgusting.

The cat just put the nail in the coffin, busting a wax tart burner onto the walls.

I'm going to be forced to repaint, since I'm going to have to Kilz it to get all the oil off the wall.

I'd pretty much rather die.

But, does anyone have a neutral paint color they love? Our entire house is khaki, and my intention was to just paint one accent wall when I redecorated (pictures of my couches and junk are in this thread.)

I notoriously go to bold, too bright and it ends up being too much.

Any suggestions?

We used Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Grey on our walls (den, bedroom) and I freaking love it.

It's def more blue than grey but it's a fantastic color. I'd definitely put it in the neutrals-ish bucket - it's not bold stand out there but it's a wonderful color.

Here's a picture:

I'll make another suggestion - get the Aura paints from Benjamin Moore, they cost more but they truly are 1 coat paints - and if you need to touch up later (like to paint over cat blood) you can touch up that one spot without having to repaint the whole wall.

oh, and I don't think either of those pictures really captures how beautiful a colour this is. It's a really rich feeling color and it's very hard to capture on film (megabites?)

Thanks, Sonya. I did read up on the Aura stuff, so I may very well spring for that. I'm trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with this living room, since now would be the time to decide to change it up if that's what I want to do... after looking through the Affinity stuff, I'm really loving the Thunder and Amorous colors. But neither really match my couches (but I am now thinking that purple should have been roped in with accent colors, because I think I'd really like it with the black and cream damask.

I hate making decisions. Especially expensive ones.

I cannot figure out what the purple is a euphimism for. I also cannot figure out how to spell euphimism.

I like the blue-gray.

I'm not really a fan of neutral walls. We recently had our living room, hallway, and kitchen painted light yellow--which I love.

i hear manchester tan is a nice neutral.
i am painting right now too - kitchen, dining area, front hall, and stairwell (kill me) - i did wilmington tan and powell buff and LOVE it.  they are like a tannish yellow kind of feel.
powell buff is a shade lighter.  the house feels so much warmer since getting these colors up on the walls.  my mom has them in her house too and it's a really warm feeling in there too.

In our house, I have used Valspar Fennel Splash and like it (but it shows very different on a wall with texture and it changes with the light). sometimes it appears dark olive and then it can be light green. but, it goes really well with any accent color that i have tried, ie. red, orange, yellow.

Thanks for all the suggestions, girls.

I'm definitely looking into everything suggested. Kelly, I'm excited to see your changes, and I'm def. looking into the tan/yellow colors that you brought up... One of my gf's on my fb yesterday posted the Glidden Wishes color, from another person's blog and while neutral, it has this lovely yellow undertone that I unexpected loved.

i'll definitely post the afters when it's done. it's TAKING EFFING FOREVER.  ask liz - i swear - i'm just about losing it at this point.
this weekend the moulding is going up, and HOPEFULLY the electrician can install the light fixture and fix up the new outlets and whatnot.

the kitchen floor is now back to our 1984 linoleum, which was under that other tile - grrrrr - and there is no way we can get it retiled by christmas (which i'm hosting).
i've been painting for WEEKS, singlehandedly (literally SINGLE handedly, as i have had no help with the kids, adn also have been going away weekends to keep the kids out of mike's way while he does all the construction).

mike demo'd the whole thing himself - we had no ceiling or walls for weeks and were walking on iffy subfloor planks - cara figured out how to shove her toys through the cracks and have them land in the basement, so that was fun for about 2 weeks (aye yi yai) -
i'm sooo over this.
at least now we have the floor and walls and ceilings done - it's just details at this point (except the kitchen floor).
i need a new rug and havent seen anything i love - and i need a cool side chair but dont want to rush into anything (or spend at this time of year) - grr.
:)

hey..I have been in love with this rug since I saw it at target.  I don't think it would work in my house.  but, i just love the colors.
