what do you think? (job related)

I had a job interview a couple weeks ago, which I thought went well.  She said she would let me know the week of the 15th (I interviewed the 4th).  Well, the 15th comes and goes, I do not hear from them. I went out of town on Tues and we returned on Friday to a phone message that was left on Wednesday (the day before thanksgiving) to call them.

Do you think they are calling to offer the job or to tell me that they did not select me?  Don said that normally, you get a phone call with an offer and a letter otherwise.  However, the thing that is throwing me off is that the person calling is not in a position to negotiate salary - she is the direct supervisor but not the head of the department.  So, i think it is just a courtesy call to let me know that they selected someone else. but then, i think, would they do that the day before thanksgiving? ;)

what do you all think?

I've never called someone to tell them they were not selected.  I send the annoying generic form letter.

I've also made boat loads of job offers, but am not the person to negotiate salary.  I bring their requests to the people who can.

I'm crossing my fingers that the same holds true for you :)

And job search timelines are notoriously wrong.  I wouldn't look too much into them not meeting their first deadline.

Well with my job search the past year and a half I never once got a call for them to tell me I did not get the job, only to offer me the job so I would think they are calling to offer it to you. And I would think if they weren't going to give it to you they would just mail you a letter, that is what happened with me.

Good luck, Liz!

I'd say the same as everyone else. It also could have been a courtesy call to say "hey, we're way behind schedule, stay tuned".

Thanksgiving causes chaos in the business world so I'd not be too surprised if they are just late making decisions.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

That sucks. Sorry, Liz. The job search is so demoralizing sometimes.

I'm sorry :( Don't give up! I am an example that it will come along eventually. I had seriously given up on finding a job, I even went to an attorney to talk to him about filing bankruptcy because if I did not get a job when I did we were going to have to file because my unemployment was running out. Keep your head up!
