Alyssa, if your are interested in an iphone but not interested in paying for the data packages required for a smart phone, look at the iTouch. The new one is pretty awesome. I think it even has a camera.

This way, you get all the benefits of the iphone (except for the phone part) (benefits = angry birds, lmao), you use wireless and pay no data plan. You can put all your music on it, watch movies or tv shows, browse the internet etc.

Then you just keep your regular cell phone plan with a simpler cell phone.

And when Jolynn makes a MS iphone app, you can still use it. :)

this is exactly what I do. I have the itouch for data (we have wireless at home and then I use it in Borders and B&N etc with their wireless) and then my cheap tracfone thing for phone. oh and I use the touch for sending texts too cause we can't get cell phone reception at home because we live in a mini valley between the hills.

How much do you guys pay for your plans? (If you don't mind.) How much are normal data add ons?

Our basic plan is $69.99/month. Plus my data plan is $29.99/month and $5/month for texting. Plus taxes and fees. Bill has no data or texting, so we end up paying per text if someone texts him.

Wow, I didn't realize to add data was so much.

Alyssa - I would definitely check with Sprint - they have a 69.99 plan that has 450 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data and unlimited to ANY mobile.

Thanks Sonya!

I have Verizon and have a Droid. Its been overall an awesome phone. I'm so picky and always change my mind and want the latest and greatest, and I've been happy. I worked for AT&T for years and seriously verizon is the best service I've had by far.

I'm hoping they get iphone, but my good friend who manages a verizon corporate store hasn't even heard, so its all just speculation. I pay like next to nothing, because I get my phone through him.

I like verizon best, we've had sprint, at&t and tmobile. Good luck :)

I have AT&T - iphone.  I pay $39.99 per month for 450 minutes I think plus $29.99 for data plan (3G internet) and $4.99 per month for 200 text messages.  I get 15% off discount through work so it comes to about $70 per month.  I LOVE having an iphone (I switched from blackberry about 9 months ago) and I love having internet everywhere....
So it all depends on what you need... I use internet a lot when I am on the road and I like to check my e-mail often so I like that I don't have to worry about finding areas with free wifi. I also like rollover minutes because some months I use phone more than others so it works for me.  And once you get used to using iphone applications, it's hard to go back to anything else...

With data plan, At&T changed to charging $20 per month I think but you get a limit on how much you can use it, I don't think they offer unlimited data plans to new customers anymore... but I have heard that as long as you don't use applications like skype too much since it transfers a lot of data, you should be fine with the $20 plan...

Also, with my plan I get unlimited minutes during weekends and after 9pm.  And if you call another AT&T phone, it's free so it saves me a lot of minutes...

that is the exact plan I was looking at.

I'm not sure the itouch route is good for me. I really need a new phone. I just figured if I was getting one, I should get a nicer one that I can do stuff on.

I was a Verizon user before I switched to AT&T. The plans and signal was great not until I had a wireless problem before with my Black Berry. I have no complains whatsoever with their service but the technical support was poor. They're racist! That's why I switched to AT&T, at least the agents at the other end are very helpful and accomodating.
