Train sets

I'm considering getting a train set for Joe for his big xmas present.  He already has a load of the wooden Thomas stuff that they play with every so often and he has a big(ish) Polar Express that he got last Christmas.  I think he would love a small electric train set but everything always seems to be either too old for him (and I would end up having to help him fix them together again like the Lego ones) or be a little too young for him (I'm thinking GeoTrax).  I'm seriously considering the GeoTrax one though even though I think he would be at the older end of the recommended age for it.  For those that have the GeoTrax do you still see your kids having a couple of years left with it or do you think I should look at something else?

Also if you have any thoughts on what would be a good train set for this age then I would really appreciate it.

My 7 year old still plays with the GeoTrax and now Carter likes them too. Braydon is a train fanatic, so I don't think he'll ever really, truly outgrow them.

I like that they're easy to build and very sturdy!

Kevin loves GeoTrax still. Kyle will play with it occasionally.

I really like it, too, but they take up a lot of room

we are still huge geotrax fans here. even i enjoy them. we usually set up both the geotrax and the wooden train set in the living room...they take up a ton of room though. you will probably want to get a big underbed rubbermaid container or something to that effect to store them all.

Thanks Ladies. I swing from thinking I don't want one more thing in this house to knowing that he would really love something like that.

I actually have no idea if Mark will like it or not but I saw this huge tub of Lincoln logs at Sam's today that came with a train track and a train. It looked really cool, and Santa is bringing it for Mark.

I think I'll go look at reviews now.
