Is it correct that you don't celebrate any holidays? If so exactly what does celebrate mean? Maybe the word celebrate isn't even used. I'm clueless about this so I'm hoping someone could help me out. I guess I'm curious as to why a child of this religion can't listen to a story about a turkey with thankgiving mentioned or participate in a felt board activity that has a pumpkin with a face.
They do not celebrate holidays because they are pagan and/ or have unholy origins. The do celebrate things like anniversaries, miscellaneous parties/gatherings, etc.
i used to work with a man who was a Jehovah's Witness.
they don't celebrate birthdays or vote either.
I didn't know that about the voting..
Of course they also believe that only 144,000 people will get into heaven, which according to one website I've read, there are about 16 million of them around, so that leaves a LOT of them out

I understand that. I guess I still don't understand why listening to a book would be a problem.

That's sad to me
we loved it at work.
since he didn't celebrate any holidays he would work all of our shifts...no arguing about who got what day off ever:)
i mean, i'm not jewish, and i still partook in the dreidle demonstration in kindergarten. in my personal opinion (purely opinion) part of education is learning about other types of traditions, even if your own family does not participate in them.
i definitely think that as in all religions, some families will be on the very conservative side and be opposed to their child participating at all, while others may be okay with their child doing a hanksgiving craft at school even if they don't have a thanksgiving dinner themselves.

My DS elementary had a winter performance that included the story of st. nick, kwanzaa, hanukkah, etc. and they gave you a list of songs they were doing and you had to OK the ones your kid could participate in. I let him do everything. I see a future without holidays being mentioned at all in public school.
