need ideas for "big" xmas gift...

ugh. so i finished my xmas shopping this summer and was looking forward to staying out of the mall come december. now, my mother (who is on oxygen--she has copd) told me she isn't feeling well enough to shop for the grandkids this year so she is just going to give me the money to buy them what i think they'd like.

i'd like to get each of the kids one big gift or a bigger gift they can all share instead of a ton of smaller things. any ideas? i have $450 total or $150/child. i'd be fine with doing a class of some sort or a savings bond, but my mother gets great joy out of watching them open her gifts on xmas eve and she just won't go for that.

any ideas??

Do you have a Wii? They're good for family fun.

Or how about one of those Little Tikes outdoor playsets?

What about something like this? I know it's about to be cold indoor weather and this kind of thing could keep them happy for a while. We have a mini one, I don't know if this is full size.

Could you delegate the gifts you bought to be from your mom and then use the money for classes or something else like that but make everybody happy?

We love the imaginext series- or maybe playmobile.  What I love is they are interchangeable and they can play together.  They aren't overly girley though- but the boat is prety neutral.

Playmobile sets were going to be my "Don't punch me in the face" suggestion, too. They've got SO much cool stuff, now... zoos, parks, tons of gender neutral stuff that is really nifty.

I've been thinking about this all day, and I was trying to come up with something creative that you don't have, lol.

I think if it were us, I would do what I've been dying to do - a band set up. But then again, our playroom is downstairs with a door, so it wouldn't be as loud. But I still think it's cute. Something like a kid style drum set, microphone or karoke machine, a First Act acoustic guitar, etc. It'd be really cute.

And then if they become like the Hansons or something, I totally want credit.

What about a duplo train set. Its super easy to set up and both of my kids LOVE it. The TAG reading system is a hit in our house too....they still use those pens all the time.
