I'm just wondering what everyone else's 05er is watching on tv.

From Joe's talk of school I get the impression that a lot of the kids games at recess revolve around the tv shows that they watch (Clone Wars and Transformers mostly)  - Joe doesn't watch any of these things.  Joe still watches pretty much just Spongebob and P&F and he loves the science channel and then of course he watches whatever Nick Jr programme Bel is watching.  From what he says I'm wondering if his taste and my monitoring of the tv is hindering him socially.

Anna likes iCarly and hannah montana, but they don't really hold her interest for the whole time. Though I_arly holds her attention more than any other show like that. Anyway, she still likes the nick jr shows, and disney cartoons. Heck, she still watches barbie and strawberry shortcake movies! So far it doesn't seem to cause her issues with her friends, at least idt it does.

Clara loves word girl and fetch!, by ruff ruffmam. Both are pbs shows.

I pick shows off iTunes store. There are others she is less into like team umizoomi, Kai Lan, etc. Some f&p too. But I use itunes to avoid the commercials!

Mark's favorite show is SpongeBob. He also likes to watch iCarly and Victorious with Henry. His friends play Star Wars, Transformers, and Bakugan, and he plays right along with them even though he's never seen these shows. I doubt the other kids have seen them either.

For a while, Mark was into the Disney XD cartoons like Spectacular Spiderman (I even liked that one) and the Fantastic Four.

He likes Phineas and Ferb.

ETA: Mark has loved Transformer toys, characters, and clothes for years. He's never seen the show or the movies.

Koda still loves Dora, Diego, Thomas, and listening to the Wiggles.  (yet another reason I'm happy I didn't send my sensitive boy to K.  Can you imagine the big playground and my guy trying to get kids to join in for a song about fruit salad?)

He is just beginning to love Star Wars since we played them for family movie nights the past few weeks.

Oh, and ANYTHING scooby-doo.  We have all the old episodes on DVD, he loves them.

I'm in no hurry.  I am a little overprotective about what he watches.  I just find Transformers, etc to be too violent.  We'll get there, and for now- he isn't even asking for them.  Star Wars was a giant step for us...it took daddy months to convince me to watch it with them :)

we are very particular about what K watches. She picks up things wayy to easy and hasnt been very well behaved as it is lately.

So she watches a lot of handy manny and mmc. Because of her brothers. Or ill let her pick out a disney movie.

We dont allow Hannah Montana or Icarly to tween shows here. I think shes too young for that. Besides she already has the attitude of a teenager. Im not sure if this is hindering her especially since she goes to our churches school where a lot of the parents dont let there kids watch these shows.

She does love word girl too and some of the pbs shows.

question - hannah montanna and icarly - what kind of conent are on these shows? allie has no clue what they even are, but I had thought they were more for elementary kids? no?

allie is very young in her movie/tv selection. however, she has not been exposed to much outside of younger shows. she still likes barbie, strawberry shortcake ,charlie and lola, P&F, etc.

They are for an older crowd.  And I would not have turned them on for the girls-one day they happened see iCarly because another show had been on that channel before, and it was later in the afternoon, kwim?  I was making dinner and didn't even notice-yikes.  So Anna decided she really likes it.  And she decided she likes HM because she likes some of her music, but she really doesn't like the show.  She says she does, but if it is on, she gets bored with it.  They really aren't appropriate for 5 year olds, IMO, so if Ali hasn't seen them, I think that is a good thing!!  They are not a regular thing in my house-I will let her watch iCarly usually about once every other week or so.  There is some kissing sometimes, and people have crushes on each other, but what bothers me more than that is the "stupid" this and stuff like that, you know?

We still watch Little Bear a ton, lol.  That is still one of the favorite shows.  My kids hate P&F though, which is so funny since it seems like everyone else loves that show!  They love Handy Manny and MMC though.

I meant to add that I hope you don't feel pressured to let your children watch (fighting the urge to write crap lol, so I'll say shows you don't agree with) just because other kids parents let them.... I am sure he will be fine with playground play without watching a lot of tv!

IMO iCarly and Hannah are older elem school... Like ceciles age, and she is 12. It has a lot to do with early stages of puberty type pre-teen issues, girl boy attraction - generally stuff I would not want a child under 10 watching. I held off Cecile until a few years ago. I struggled in the beginning but let her watch high school musical and then of course she realized there were other shows.

It helps I don't have US tv here and I can have more influence in what they watch. Our French satellite has the discovery channel and that is what the big kids more watch everyday. That and a cooking channel lol.

That is kind of what I thought, but was thinking maybe I was wrong. I had no clue what they really show.

Eh, she has years ahead to get into that stuff. I honestly do not think it would even hold her interes right now.

She is not huge into P&F, but likes it.

I love Little Bear and I have Mia still, so I think that is another reason Allie stays on the younger shows. However, she has not shown any interest or seem to know any different. I am keeping her young :)

Glad to see his tv viewing isn't too 'young' for his age.  It's not that I feel pressure to let him watch those shows,  and for the most part it isn't that I won't let him but that the few times he has seen a couple minutes here and there it just hasn't grabbed his attention.  If he had an older sibling or friend then he would probably be all over those shows but because his only viewing companion is 2 he usually ends up watching 'younger' shows.

I'm probably overthinking everything as usual when he alternates between saying that he played 'Clone Wars' with the boys and then saying that such and such wouldn't play with him.

Lucas is a PBS kid. He usually watches Cat and the Hat in the morning and sometimes if he can talk me into taking him he also watches Super Why.

In the afternoons it is Arthur and Fetch.

He also likes to watch Super Hero shows (like batman) on Demand and Scooby Doo, but I wonder if he is too young for them so we stick to PBS most of the time.

We used to watch P&F ALL THE TIME but now I have no clue when it comes on TV

Meghan doesn't watch a lot of TV anymore since she spends most of her media time playing the Wii (Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, Mario Party) but the one thing she watches every Saturday morning is the Clone Wars. No big surprise there, huh? LOL

Not really my idea at all of watch she should be watching, but I lost the battle against Star Wars a long time ago since it is such a bonding factor between her and her Daddy. It came around right when she needed that extra special attention (when I was pregnant).

I don't see any bad behavior coming from it. I do have to remind her that she can't really use the lightsaber in her lightsaber fights with Dad. She forgets to be gentle sometimes and I'll admit that I HATE THAT SHE LIKES TO PLAY LIKE THAT but she is who she is. As long as she continues to be such a good listener and so well behaved, I sit back and watch her imagination take off.

This is Raven.  She's been watching star wars,  batman, ben 10 type shows since birth because of her brother.  She loves to sword fight with him.  He always thought it was so cool that she liked the stuff he did.

She has seen some of the tween girl shows but they don't hold her attention for very long.  She still likes diego, dora, freshbeat band, cat in the hat, curious george, etc.  Basically she is still happy with nick jr. type shows.

I didn't realize how popular scooby doo was at this age until I volunteered in the library.  We can't keep enough of those books around.

Dominic doesn't watch alot of tv anymore either since he is in school all day but in the mornings it is usually Curious George or Team Umizoomi, at night it is The Upside Down Show and Wow Wow Wubbzy. He still likes Spongebob, Dora, Diego and Kai Lan but he doesn't watch it very often, mostly all the shows on Nick Jr. and PBS Kids he likes.
