Aubrey has been such a handful since school started. Its like she is picking up on all these crazy behaviors at once or just being a typical 5 year old. She is my oldest and I am dealing with alot of the same issues as all of you. She is always wanting to snack instead of sitting down to eat a meal with us. Its a battle to get her to eat any protein (unless you count chicken nuggets LOL), vegetables or fruit. Her preferred menu consists of mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, cheese sandwiches, goldfish and chocolate chip granola bars. It would be fabulous to get her to expand her food horizons a little, mostly because when she refuses to eat something, Austin will too.

Her behavior has been insane! She is always crying about everything, for instance, yesterday she had her spiral notebook out that she writes in and Austin had a pen and she cried and threw herself on the floor because she wanted it. She is constantly picking on her brother, whether its scaring him or taking his toys away. And screaming....that I could do without.

Her teacher is always telling me how wonderful she is and how she listens and behaves so well. I just don't get why when she is at home that she thinks she needs to be such a handful!

Aye.

Nicole, ITTTTTU.  Anna's teacher keeps telling me how great she is doing, the principal sent a note home about how great of a listener she is, she has gone to the classroom treasure box (a reward system they have) 3 times already, etc.  She is doing GREAT at school.

Then she comes home.  I swear I really think that she is worn the eff out, and she has had to be good ALL day long, and she can't take it anymore!  It is hard work for these kids to stay focused all day long, and when they come home, i think they just want to relax and let go, but they are 5, and they don't know exactly how to do that, kwim? (not that we as adults always do either)  And they feel safe at home, so all of the emotions and exhaustion come out for us!

It still drives me bonkers though.

It is nice to know we are mostly all in this boat together though.

Aubreys teacher also does the treasure chest thing. And Aubrey gets to go and pick a treat out of it at least once a week. So I know she is doing well, I just don't get why she needs to be like Jekyl and Hyde. LOL That said though, I would rather she behaved at school and then gave me the rough end of it. I'd hate for her teacher to be dealing with any of what I have to encounter with her at home. This too shall pass right? LOL

wow. it is the complete opposite at my house. connor was a holy terror from 3-5, then it was like a switch got flipped when he turned 5 and he is totally different. i think the structure of daily school has been really good for him. he is so much more enjoyable and less wild these days. he still terrorizes grace sometimes, but all in all he is waaaay better than he used to be.

This is us too.  He has his moments still, of course, but I am so grateful for 5!  Way better than 4 here!
(I hope I didn't just jinx myself!)

Haha I can totally relate.  Christopher is very bossy and stubborn and he tells me what I should do and what I shouldn't.  For example, he does not like when I wear make-up and he tells me that he does not want to hold my hand, kiss me, look at me, etc. when I am wearing make up.  He also wants me to be in my jammies all day long, even when we go out.  Hmm... not happening kiddo.  But he never gives up demanding and he threatens me too that he will not love me, go to other mommy, etc.  He will also tell me to drive faster, slower, etc.  I don't listen to him and tell him that I am mommy and he should listen to me but that is always followed by resistance.

Eating-wise, he's been picky forever so it's nothing new but he will not eat any veggies or fruits.  He ate bananas for a while but he gave it up now.. all he wants is yogurt, cereal and pasta. Nothing else.  I have starved him, promised him great things but nothing seems to work... so as of now I am giving him multivitamins to supplement his bad eating habit and I am hoping that he will grow out of it some day.

He can also be very sweet and loving so it balances out in the end, for me at least...  I am so glad that we did not start kindy this year... I am hearing from my friends in town also how their kids are exhausted after school and all the schoolwork they have to do so our 9-12 preschool schedule is great.  He is a bit tired but we take breaks in the afternoon or take it slow and it helps.

Oh and he LOVES video games.  He would play on my iphone all day if I let him and we recently visited my sister who was Wii and he went bonkers over it.  It's on his x-mas wish list but I am not getting it for him.  We got him a laptop and I am going to download some spelling and typing games on it for him.
