preschools and being potty trained

Kevin's preschool requires that he be "potty trained."  This is all they say, that they be potty trained.

I'm a little worried.  He's pretty good about going now, but he still has an occasional accident (mostly when he's totally engaged in something and forgets).  However, he is not very independent in the bathroom.  He can pull down his pants/underwear and go, but he can't wipe if he goes poop, and he still needs help with pulling up his underwear/pants most times (or he's just being stubborn about not doing this).

I guess it's hard for me to believe that most 3 year olds will be completely independent,  and I'm sure the teachers will help.  I hope so.  When I was talking to his teacher at the meet and greet, she said if they have an accident the teachers aren't allowed to change them at all and will need to call the nurse to deal with it.  There will be two other 3 year olds in his class and probably just as many in the other class (there are two classrooms with 3,4,5 year olds).

Anyway, has anybody else had a preschool require they be potty trained, and how strict were they?  Did they expect total independence, wiping their own bottoms and such? I guess I shouldn't worry too much, huh?

Teachers at most preschools cannot wipe or change children. They will help with buttons or zippers, bu typically the kids need to get their pants up and down. They will not change kids at allie's school.

They learn pretty fast when they see other kids going to the bathroo
and that.

I guess I'm used to daycare.

Our daycare will change and help them if necessary. I'm sure that's different than preschool but I know the teachers help a lot in Josie's room.

Raven's was public preschool. They were ok with her being in pull ups and they helped when needed(remind to wipe, pull up pants, change clothes). She was there maybe 2 weeks and they said I could try and send her in underwear and she did fine.

Katie was supposed to start preschool last week, but is not potty trained so we had to pull her out.  :(  AND, we lost our deposit.   Well, we didn't lose it, they said it can carry over to next year.  We were told they were not equipped with a changing station or anything.  I was very bummed because we were on a wait list to get in, finally got accepted, but she's a diva and won't potty.

Our school also requires potty training for the 3s and up. IHNI how much they help, if any, but I doubt very much. They will help with the dressing aspect, but I don't know about the wiping-I think kids are expected to wipe themselves.

Tbh, Anna hardly ever went at school. She was only there from 9-11:30, she always peed before we left, and her poop schedule, lmao, was always later in the day. She has used the bathroom there, but most of the time, she would hold it until she came home.

And once Kate trained, it was different because in the 2s class, they have a potty break where the trained kids use the potty and the others get their dipes changed. So she had times to go (but she did ask if she needed to go, and they were very hands on. Different from the 3s, 4s and preK classrooms).

I know when my SIL was sending hers to preschool, they were ok with them being in a pull up, as long as they didn't poop. I know she sent at least one of her kids in pull ups and it wasn't an issue. But at ours, they wouldn't accept pull ups.

You would be surprised what they can do by themselves when mom isn't around. Suddenly, their independence skyrockets, lol!!!

It will be ok!!

our preschool requires that 3 yr olds are potty trained as well, but when R was there, they did help the kids a lot.  i dont know if they wiped them, but they did help them get on the toilet, etc.
i'm worrying about the potty training thing and preschool too. she's trained, but still does have accidents, and is NOWHERE NEAR POOP TRAINED. :pullhair

the only preschool around here that you don't have to be potty trained is the one public preschool (which is income dependent and a lottery system. idk anyone who goes there, but i know they will change diapers).

every other preschool in town requires the kids be potty trained, be able to pull pants up/down, wipe, etc.

usually non day care preschools are only 2.5 hours or so, so the chance of a kid needing to poop in that time frame are probably pretty slim. i know connor was only pee trained at age 3 and he never had an issue.

The luck of being on a university campus and having a preschool run by a psychology department.  The psych peeps don't believe in pushing a child to a development milestone before they are ready tp embrace it.  Our prek takes kids in diapers, in pull ups, or fully trained.  They won't focus on pottying training the way some daycares will (I wish, I would love potty training to just happen!), but by seeing other kiddos use the big boy potty, they all eventually come around.

Love our hippy psych department :)  Or Tristen would still not be going to preK...stubborn little guy.
