We have to wait until school starts before we can further investigate any ADD/ADHD angles.
I brought up some issues yesterday that we are having with him. We're hoping that school is just the thing that routes that hyperactivity and impulsive behavior in the right direction versus all over the map...

I wonder if it'll curb the talking non-stop too?

I'm sorry you have to do all the paperwork. It sucks. I hope that the evaluation goes well!

Its not so bad. He gets up to 2 hours of t.v. a day. Not all at one time. He can watch a show he likes in the morning and then the t.v. goes off. He can watch one movie a day.

Otherwise we're outside playing. He has his sandbox, his tool bench, his bikes...

Then we have games we can play like Scrabble Junior and Quirkle.

We also have a bunch of preschool and Kindergarten educational materials that we bought or printed off so he kind of does this "home school" (in quotes b/c its less structured than traditional home school) thing. We garden and do outdoor chores.  We go on "adventures" to different places that we've never been before. Sometimes we go explore the area Good Wills for "treasure". We go to the Farmer's Market or the book store. We go to the river. Most of these are activities that only take gas and not $$ to purchase tickets, etc. One day we went to the Nature Center and had an absolute blast!

Today we went for ice cream and explored a different Wal-Mart and then went to Good Will.

The t.v. has been off since 8:00 this morning. It probably won't get turned on tonight.

Us too.  I was just talking with Travis about it tonight.

I don't know if I can break up with our movies in the van though.  Honestly, it gives me sanity.

We were thinking of trying no TV at home except Friday Movie Nights which we never miss, and still allowing the movies in the van (which we use even on short trips around town :bag)

Can someone tell me why I am a schmuck who volunteers for every dang project?

Every freaking staff meeting scenario:  Boss "we need some to .... "

Crickets Chirp.

Chirp.

Getting Awkward.

Me "Yup, no problem.  Will have it for you by Friday".

My plate is so full it resembles last call at an all you can eat buffet.

I so don't want to work today. or any day. I was planning to look for jobs this week but I have no desire to do that either.

I may need to try this no tv thing or at least cut back. maybe no tv after 7:30 would help. that's my new rule.

I have to pay extra for Ethan to go to full day K. Plus extra for afterschool. It still ends up cheaper than full time daycare and he spends the whole day in one place instead of shuttling back and forth.

LL, we will have to trade 5/EJ stories some time. Over drinks. (well I'll drink. you can laugh when I slur my words.)

Most def!!!!

Hey any plans to visit my part of the country anytime soon?!?!?!

I'm going to a wedding in Brooklyn in Nov. Otherwise no. EJ spends all his time going back and forth to NY with Ethan so I feel like it's not worth my time to take him. lol.

they went for a week in April, 4 days in July, and are going for 5 days in Sept and a week at Christmas. all to stay with his parents. I would want to shoot myself.

Hi, Alyssa!

I'm trying not to go turn on the TV.

Not sure that playing on the computer is much better . . .

Anyway, what are you doing this evening?

I took Mark to play at McD's with my friend and two Kindergarten girls, then we all went roller-skating.

Mark HATED it at first because he kept falling. He took off the skates, sat and watched for a while. Then he decided to try again. By the second hour, he was "skating" around--on the carpeted non-rink part--like a champ. He even got brave and went out onto the slippery rink floor a few times. He said, "I thought I hated skating, but now I LOVE skating. I never want to leave."

Too bad Tiny Tots skating is only on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30, and he'll be at Kindergarten at that time until next summer.

Hi Robin,
I was only on the computer to check email but then decided to surf and eat ice cream. I should really be in bed.

I emailed Ethan's teacher that he told me they weren't letting him go to breakfast when he gets off the bus and I wasn't sure if there was something I needed to do. My guess was that Ethan wasn't being vocal enough and was too nervous to. She was super sweet in her response. Said starting next week they'd be directing kids there but this week, they were trying to get them used to come to the classroom. She's going to walk him over to the cafeteria herself tomorrow am. He is going to be so excited. Special walk with the teacher and they are serving pancakes!!!

Also he told me the most fun part of his day is when he goes back to the cafeteria and the gym in the afternoon. That's the after school program! I'm so glad we decided to go that route instead of bussing him to his old daycare center.

I want to take Ethan roller skate but he's as clutzy as I am.

He starts football this week. Their first practice was scheduled for tomorrow but has now been canceled because of the heat. First game is Saturday. Should be interesting watching a bunch of five year olds that have never played football hit each other. lol.

You should get some video of that.

I just read a book with Henry about a team of 8-year-old Pee Wee football players.

Fiction but REALLY funny.

Probably not too far from the truth.

i can't believe how early everyone else's kids start school.

i also can't believe how many k programs are full day.

there are 8 elementary schools in my town and each has 3-4 half day k classes...they don't have the staff or space to make all the k kids go full day.

idt connor could handle full day quite yet anyways, so that is fine by me.

Hi all!!  Catching up here...

Corey-all of our schools are full day here too.  They have had to make a number of changes and do some expansions in order to accomodate that.  In fact, Anna will be having K in a brand new wing at her school! (yay, she'll be the first to breathe in the toxic new carpet fumes, lol)  The county really pushed for it after parents started pushing about childcare being difficult.  I am sure I will get flamed for saying this, but I hate that I feel like my child has to be forced into all day school (and I very much feel all day is too much for most kids at this age) because it is easier logistically for working parents and bus drivers.  It feels like what is best for children isn't as important anymore.  I'm sure Anna will adjust, and she doesn't nap anymore, but she does rest in the afternoons and I just feel like this is too much too soon.  We contemplated private school, but none of them are half day anymore either, plus my neice who did that was WAY behind come 1st grade.  And homeschooling would not work for us.  She and I wouldn't work well together.

Ugh.  This growing up thing is hard.  On me, anyway, lol.

Ok, that was WAY too charged a post for my first in the thread for the day-sorry about that.

Some were complaining of full day here so they did sign ups to see how many would be interested in half and they only had enough for 1 half day classroom(there are 23 full day classrooms).  They sent info home about what full and half offered and there was no way I was going to put her in half(which is what I originally wanted).
