Kindergarten and lunch

They don't do lunch for kindergarteners. I think they get milk. They are there for less than 3 hours so it's not a big deal.

When he is going full day we will definitely be packing a lunch. He is such a picky eater so it's just easier that way.

We look at the menu for the month, Hannah picks out what she likes to eat and eats school lunch on those days. All the other days we pack lunches. I wish she liked more of the school choices LOL!

As long as Lucas's aid will be assisting with lunch he will be getting hot lunch. There isn't much he won't eat so I'm not real worried about what the lunch is that day but I will keep an eye on it for anything he may prefer not to eat.

On Mark's one day that he went this week, he was "a lunch tray" so he got the hot lunch. I checked the menu online to make sure it was something he would eat, and it was chicken tenders.

I'll probably pack a lunch about 3 out of 5 days each week. That's about the same as Henry.

Now I have to wait to see if there are any peanut allergies in Mark's class. I hope not since that REALLY limits what I put in Mark's lunch. He may never eat another hot dog ever again after Kindergarten. ;D

I hope we don't have any peanut allergies. Today Raven will eat at school since it's pizza and I know she will eat that. Raven won't eat most of the entrées so I'm sending her lunch from now on. She also has breakfast at school and I'm not sure if I'm going to pack for that also.

I wish our peanut allergy eliminated peanuts in the classroom here at preK. Nope. Instead I freak out every day and try to no think about it too much.

Past Prek, our entire district went peanut free a couple years back. Hard at first, but it became a non issue over time. There are some pretty great peanut butter alternatives that still taste good with jelly :) Sunbutter is one of them.

For now, my kiddos are the ones that don't get the cupcakes sent in, or many of the snacks handed out. We send in everything. Allergies suck.

Ethan is buying lunch. There are 5!!! choices every day. Hot lunch, sack lunch, salad, pb&j (which I was shocked about), and yogurt with crackers. Plus multiple side dish options. It's insane.

He can also buy breakfast. He never wants to eat when he gets up so we told him he has that option but yesterday he skipped it because they weren't serving pancakes. He eats lunch at 10:30 so I'm not too concerned.

i am super pissed they eliminated snack this year--connor is not going to have an easy time with that:(

Our preschool was peanut-free but Mark only had lunch there one day a week. One day a week of hot dogs or bologna was okay with him, but not 5 days a week.

emily is going into her 3rd year of school and she's never bought.

i just don't like her eating the school food. i know that's probably dumb, but i just like the control i have packing her lunch.

jake's preschool is peanut free but emily's elementary school is not. i heard that the kids with peanut allergies sit at "peanut free" tables, but i'm not 100% sure on that.

jake is really going to miss pb&j. :(

The school we are sending Char to doesn't do lunch in (well, they have lunch time programs but not an official lunch program at school). Kids would either go home or go to a lunch program not run by the school.

Charlie will go back to the place he'll do after school care. The teachers walk up, get the kids, and then walk back to the school. He'll eat the same food he had in daycare (which mostly he loves) and then the teachers walk them back to school.

After school they pick them up again and walk them back to the center.

I'm SO happy not to be packing lunch. We'll have to pack snack but not lunch.

I know how you feel. Raven won't eat anything breaded(except my homemade fish sticks), hamburger, tomato based. The one vege they get is sometimes corn. I also don't consider french fries and tater tots as a vege serving.

Stephen has a lot of great choices in high school so he never takes his lunch.

Not dumb at all. I feel the same. She ate at preschool, but they have stricter rules on nutrition it seems. They never had pizza, nuggets, etc.

I feel like I feed her enough crap, I dont want someone else feeding it to her too. lol.

ETA: I sound like a snob. Just to be clear, she will likely be eating at school anyway. It just seems like the options are so limited and are lazy. I mean, do they ever have broccoli? Cause Kiera actually really likes veggies and good stuff.

Ditto. I might let her buy as a special treat now and then, but she and I will be packing her lunch the night before so that I can control what she gets. They like to help me pack Bill's, so I'm sure she will be excited to help.

Anna and Kate both would struggle big time if they couldn't have pb&j. IDT our schools are peanut free. I hope not!!! (I feel for you, Jenn, and all others who deal with peanut allergies. It sucks!)

Here most classrooms are nut free for snack because of allergies but usually the cafeteria is not they just have the nut free table where the kids with allergies have to sit. It is extremely difficult to make the whole cafe completely nut free because most people think that means no peanut butter sandwiches but dont think about the other snacks in their kids lunch.

Our church is peanut-free right down to the preschool! It was hard when Colin when Colin went to try to make sure everything was peanut free and not processed in a plant that used tree nuts and such.

This school is peanut free too. *sigh*
That's hard with an extremely picky eater who likes peanut butter and jelly. If it ain't peanut butter he won't touch it.
He hates bread except for when it comes with peanut butter on it. LOL
He is so picky that I worry about doing school lunches.. What if its something he doesn't like? He's notorious for doing the, "Oh, I like this" then getting it and sticking his nose up at it like we're trying to get him to eat escargot or something.
*sigh*
I'm stuck. School is in less than a week and I don't know what to do!

Luc went to all day prek last year and I started off the year packing his lunch but he would rarely eat it for some reason (I guess since most of the kids bought) so we started buying his lunch. So this year he is just going to buy lunch.

We are mostly packing Jillian's lunches. We get a menu for the month, and I'll sit down and look at what they are serving a choose a few days here and there. She won't eat most of the stuff @ school. She's a good eater, but hates really messy stuff... so we'll see.

Ryan will probably get more hot lunches, because he's a garbage disposal and will eat anything lol.

well i am shameless. the daycare side always cooked them a hot lunch and/or made something...always good quality food and i loved that. you weren't allowed to bring their lunch.

now that we are on the school side i have to make her lunch. there is no option to buy lunch. i would be willing to fork over some dough for that convenience. especially because she HATES peanut butter in any form or fashion. so no pb&j here.

so...i haven't figured out how it will all work out, but c has been informed that she is in danger of starving if she does not cooperate.

i think it will be some sandwich/hot soup w/a fruit or veggie option plus "dessert." also, i learned this morning that their AM snack is self supplied. so i'll pack that also.

i was shocked to find only the oreos left in her lunchbox this afternoon...
