would you paint?

well....i bought a desk and chair off of CL and Don refinished the desk and it looks GREAT, but I got impatient for the chair to get done so I went ahead and painted it black.  Now, however, they don't match. :(  Would you paint the desk? (I don't really want to do that, however, since don worked so hard on it, but I do have another cheap desk from Target I could paint black)

Would you strip the chair and refinish it to match the desk?

I tried to work on making the desk and chair go together by using accesories, but not sure it is working.  (I also am looking for handles for the desk so my first thought was black handles to tie in the desk).

any thoughts?
here are some pics.  the first is the desk and chair. the second pic is of the other cheap desk I could paint black.

My first thought was black handles for the desk.

I would not paint the desk. It looks beautiful.

It's hard to tell from pictures but I think I might do a smaller chair with that style of desk.

Haha, I stage one house and now I'm giving decorating advice. lmao.

feel free to ignore me. haha.

i wouldnt worry too muhc about them matching. that desk looks outstanding. i'd leave it be, except for some pulls.  i do think a cream colored upholstered chair would look great there ashamed.gif
but i really think the black works, especially with the black frame. :)

Thanks Kelly!  I am thinking I'll try the black handles.  i really want to use the chair.  (I am still on the lookout for upholstered chairs for my dining room - I went to a furniture store that had the one I found online but wasn't sure)

did you ever decide on shades for your porch/mudroom?  (I saw something interesting - you can wallpaper a shade!! (like one of thos cheap shades that cut to length) I really want to try it!

I meant the refinished chair.

I guess it depends for me if you are using the desk for work or if its a decoration. If it was a decoration, something like a shaker style chair would show off the desk (which is fantastic!).

If it's for work, I love the chair you painted and I think it works well.

a wallpapered shade  - that's fascinating!

no, i never figured anything out. i actually just sort of stopped thinking about that room altogether. i think i needed a break. i am kind of ready to start thinking about that blank wall again. i want to do two white shelves in the back by the plant, and still looking for something modernish for over the chairs...i LOVE the ladder shelf idea but i dont think the room is big enough.

Here is the link for wallpaper - I have such tall windows (I need 84 and most standard are 72 -not even sure if the cut to lenght shades are that length) I might try and make a roman shade.  I found a really good tutorial.  (i am with you on needing a break from all the decorating choices - it gets so overwheming!!) but, i love the idea of shelves - did you see yhl and their shelf idea for over their desk?  it is pretty cool.

I definitely wouldn't paint the desk. I love Sonya's idea of doing the handles black, and I'm with Kelly in not thinking that the black chair is bad with it, at all.

I really love anytime that wood colors, paint colors, etc. are mismatched but pulled together with other things in the room (again, like Kelly mentioned, the frame) - I think it looks so chic, unique, and pulled together. Not like you just went to mass market and got what was on display. But, I love the way it looks, long story short.

Ditto. I love the black chair, even though its not the same color as the desk. And the pulls would totally tie it all in. Love it!

I agree on putting black pulls on it.  I don't think you need to worry about the woods matching and honestly I don't think the desk would look that good painted.  Another thing you could do is to put a thin seat cushion on the chair that has a print with blacks and tans/browns/creams on it.

Noooooooooo!

Don't dooooo it!!!

I love that pop of black!

Okay, fine, it's your house, and I don't think the white will look bad.

But seriously, I love the chair as it is.

Am I off your favorites list now, lol? ;)

well...I painted the chair and I think it looks "ok" it definitely doesn't have the "pop" factor, but it flows better, I think. here are some pics.
