Running Question
Permalink

I started Couch25K yesterday. Honestly this would be the first time I have ran since I was forced to do so in high school.   Around run 7 I thought I might cheat and walk the next 2 runs but I pushed through and did it all.  And after pushing through run 9 was actually not difficult, like I passed a hump or something.

Anyway - I sweated my butt off b/c it was warm.  That was about 3:00.   When I got to daycare to pick up the kids I felt energized - usually about that time I'm ready to crash for the night I'm so tired.

When we got home at 6:00 we then unloaded a trailer full of mulch and spread it around the flower beds.  I still felt energized but  thought 'man I'm going to sleep like a log tonight ' after the running and 2 hours of yardwork.

Surprisingly, I could not sleep at all last night.  Seriously I'm pretty sure I laid there awake all night long.  It was like I had some crazy energy running through my veins.

My question is - is this what running does?  Have I kick started some endorphins which have never moved in their lives???  It was like that short 31 minutes yesterday flipped some switch in my body and it does not want to stop going now!!!

I work out everyday, and it is definitely a enery booster.  If I miss a day, I don't feel energized.  I have NO problems sleeping at night though.  Maybe because you haven't done it in awhile, you're body's not sure how to respond?  Maybe you'll sleep hard tonight!?  (I hope you do!!)  Good luck!

Kris it does the same thing to me.  I haven't been running recently but normally I would after I put the girls to bed and I would stay awake afterwards until 3am.  It's like once the endorphines were released they kept my whole body charged for hours - that runners high. ;)

My body was never in better shape than when I was running.  I really need to start doing it again.  You might just get me motivated.

I get up at 5:45 a.m. to go walking/running because it's cooler outside. When I would walk without running, I'd come home and go back to bed. But now that I'm running, I just stay up and don't even feel tired.

However, by 9 p.m. or so, I'm a zombie. I have no problem sleeping.

that is what it felt like, a natural high.  I don't remember feeling so energized  . . . um, ever!  That alone is reason to keep doing it!

I also want to get my body in better shape plus be active to keep my heart healthy!

I can't run in the morning.  My schedule and where we live wouldn't allow it but I did get up early and got into work 45 minutes early and plan to run along the canal downtown before I go pick up the kids.

I can tell you the first day I did p90x the same exact thing happened to me. I hadn't exercised in a long time either and thought I would sleep so well!

Same for me last night (and mon night). Exhausted but super high from exercise video. Of course, I may not be able to walk again.

omg I can barely walk right now!

If my kids call for me in the middle of the night I'm sure I will have to crawl to get there!!
