Poor sweet girl, she's had a battle with this sickness. I hope the meds kick in super fast and she's better soon. Did they give you zithromax? I think that is what Bryson had when he had pneumonia and it worked so well. Prayers for her.
Thanks so much, y'all, for the prayers. Seriously, this sucks.
Yes, Erin -- she is having an allergic reaction to her antibiotics shot. About 5 pm, she started breaking out in hives, which quickly spread throughout her body. I called the on-call nurse, and they told me to give her Benadryl... I confirmed that with the pharmacist, and showed her a picture of the hives, and she said it did look like what a drug allergy would look like.
The trouble with Benadryl is that it sedates her, which is apparently not what you want with pneumonia. I guess you want them coughing to dislodge the pockets of bacteria in the lungs.
So she was fine and sedated until about 30 minutes ago, when she woke up and started coughing so hard that she can barely catch her breath... and breathing difficulties are apparently both a symptom of the allergic reaction and the pneumonia progressing, so IHNFI what end is up.
I just gave her another dose of Benadryl and motrin... I am praying that was the right call.
As much as I hate puke, I would take that every day of the week over this. I hate this.
(Forgive my whining. I'm obviously in that middle-of-the-night lonely hour that I hate so much when caring for a sick kid...)
