Katelyn Paige was born on May 18th at 6:02 am, weighing 6 lbs 9oz and measuring 19 inches long.
We were discharged this morning and have been trying to rest and get settled. Needless to say, I was only 37 weeks along and expected to have at least a couple more weeks to finish preparing everything for Katelyn's arrival, so there are still a few things to get done, but for the most part we were pretty much ready.
I forgot how difficult breastfeeding can be, but we're working through it. Just waiting for my milk to come in.
A quick rundown of her birth:
I woke up at 1am Tuesday morning to find my amniotic fluid slowly leaking but no contractions, pressure or discomfort. After talking to midwife, decided to stay home to wait and see. I was GBS+ and would need IV antibiotics, so she wanted me in the hospital by 8am anyway. Around 2am contractions started to kick in, we packed our bags and tried to rest. Too painful to stay in bed, so I was up walking around getting other stuff done, then decided to take a shower. By the time I was done getting ready I told Dom we really needed to get going. We waited for his cousin to come to the house to stay with the boys, and my sister was also driving in from out of town.
We left the house a little after 5am, the drive to the hospital took about 20-25 mins, and the contractions were really painful. We arrived, went to triage, they checked me to find just an "anterior lip" of cervix! Things got really hectic after this and happened so fast. The nurses wheeled me in the bed straight over to a labor room and had me scoot over to another bed while everyone was rushing around to get things set up. The contractions were right on top of one another, I was moaning and yelling about how it hurt, squeezing Dom's hand. They asked if I needed to push, and though I didn't feel that pressure to push, I said I would try. One push and her head started to come out, they told me to slow down, one more push and she was out! The on-call midwife didn't even make it to the room in time, the attending doctor delivered Katelyn.
No time for any IVs, including the abx, no time for pain meds, and thankfully no tearing. It was an amazing experience, and I'm proud of myself. Because we missed the abx, they wanted to keep an eye on Katelyn for 48 hrs. She's fine and healthy, and really so tiny to me (the boys were 7lbs 11oz and 7lbs 13oz when they were born). She's perfect.
