Would you pick a name that the sibling didn't like?

I'm not sure how much "weight" to give Andrew's opinion in picking a name.

I've really loved Elizabeth forever, and while I was preggo with Andrew, Lauren really grew on me. So I thought I may want to go with Lauren Elizabeth. Andrew is ok with that. Steve thinks it's ok, but now I'm not sure.

For some reason, the name Alexis has been on my mind a lot. I'm not sure why. When I mentioned it to Andrew, he said, "Yuck. I don't like that name. I don't like the way it feels in my mouth. It makes me want to throw up". He doesn't know anyone named Alexis, so I'm not sure where that very strong reaction is coming from.

Would you use it, if your other kids didn't like it?

um, yes.

i probably wouldn't give any weight to my kids' opinion honestly.

today they like peanut butter. tomorrow they don't.

their minds change constantly so i just wouldn't be that interested in their opinion on such an important topic as a sibling's name.

I would also pick a name that a sibling didn't like. When they grow up, they can pick their own kids' names.

If I'd gone with Henry's choice, Mark would be "Bubble Light" or "Stupid D@mmit".

I agree that you need to pick it.  I also think it does not hurt to have more than one name in mind.  When you see your baby girl and hold her you can decide.  Another thing to think about, Andrew just might not like the fact that you are changing something, so is just reacting to the change, not the name.

OK, so I'm such a dork! LOL! I really am one of those people who thinks way too much about stuff.

With Andrew, we didn't name him until he was 4 days old. Last day in the hospital, they came with the form, again, and was like it's now or never for the Birth Cert.

Andrew did suggest Lily, which is very sweet.

I'll be the cheese that stands alone, lol.

Let me say that I wouldn't drop it completely just because he didn't like it once - but if Hannah hated the name after repeatedly hearing it, I'd be unlikely to use it. I'm not saying I'd necessarily let her have a bigger say like actually choosing the name since I'm not big on something like Aurora Rose Belle Arielle Princess. But, hearing a new name is like introducing a new food - sometimes they take right to it, and sometimes they have to hear it a bunch before they take to it. I'd keep bringing it back up if you love it, and cross that bridge when you get to it if you are still in love.

I'd say there's a near 100% he'll love it regardless - he's a boy, that's his sissy, and it'll grow on him. But Hannah is sort of name obsessed, so I probably wouldn't use anything that after repeatedly hearing it, she still hated.

I told my mom that I'd mentioned Alexis to Andrew a few times, and she was like, he's a kid why would you even ask him?

I'm not letting him pick the name, we've been though Stinky. A lot. But, I would like to get a feel for a name. I thought Andrew and Alexis sounds cute together, and would like Andrew to feel like he's included. I have mentioned it more than once, to see what he thinks. He's also "into" names too. He likes to change his and will get mad if we don't remember what it is.

I don't want to have a name set in stone just yet. I really thought Andrew would have been Alexander, but the name just didn't seem right when he got here. I filled it out on the paper at the hospital for the picture, and it just didn't sit right with me.
I also love the name Elizabeth, so I am still up in the air...
