ok, so this is embarrassing.  LOL

i have had an iphone for 2 years and it's never had more than 8 songs on it.

:bag:

mostly b/c i'm too cheap to buy songs.  but i bought a shuffle yesterday at target and now i need to get some music for the gym on there.

my friend told me to subscribe to limewire but then another friend told me that you get tons of viruses from there.

soooo, first friend made me a pretty good mix cd with about 75 songs on it - i put a few of them on there for my workouts, but i still need more.

someone told me that i can go somewhere and see people's playlists and get ideas from there.  but i can't find that.

pleeeeeeeeease help me.  i really need to get this set up.

thanks!

I have limewire.

As long as you have good antivirus software you should be good. I also set it so that I do not share the music (ie people cannot download it from you) I have almost 2000 songs on my desktop and knock on wood have not had a problem.

ok good to know.

idt i have antivirus software though b/c matt is hardcore about our network.  we have a pretty secure firewall, etc, so he manages all of that without anti-virus.

i really need to get his opinion on limewire too, i guess.

Ah yeah I wouldnt do it without actual antivirus. I have had downloads stopped by norton or mcafee.  Let me know if you want me to just burn you some songs or send you some files LOL

Just be careful.  RIAA sues these sites for IP addresses for users on sites like limewire

This one isn't limewire, but got similar press:  http://www.themoneytimes.com/featured/20090621/jammie-thomas-rasset-fined-1-92-million-riaa-case-id-1073389.html

My students get slammed all the time with fines, but RIAA monitors college campuses a lot more closely.

I know the chances are remote, but I don't think they are worth it.

Especially when you can borrow the CD through your library or inter-library loan and upload to your computer than ipod and it is untraceable.
ashamed

April- there is a site that sells the songs for less.  Travis thinks it is a shade of gray since they are operating out of Russia or something like that, but I know several people have used them without issue.

And of course, I don't know the name because Travis is freaking paranoid about downloading ANYTHING.  But I am pretty sure Kris has had a lot of luck with them.  Malin told us about them a long time ago.

ok, i'm sorry to ask so many ridiculous questions, but i'm having problems.

first, i imported songs from a cd (that staci burned for me). then i created a playlist to get them onto my ipod. well, when i went to import them to my ipod, it's saying that there's an error b/c the songs cannot be found. i think it's trying to pull the songs from the cd and not from the library. why would that be? how did i screw that up?

also, once i put a playlist on my ipod, if i want to add more songs to the ipod, what is the easiest way to do that? add them to the playlist and then resync? or is there a way to send specific songs to the ipod?

seriously, i know everyone knows how to use itunes so i'm sorry i'm so slow, but ty for the help!

I get my music from legalsounds.com. 9 cents a song. You do have to put in $25 bucks, but it's lasted me forever!!

yes, that is the one.

my advice is to always buy a $25 gift card and put that in your account that way you are not putting any personal banking/credit card info on there.

you need to click on "file" and then "add file to library"  click the song you want added to your library.

yes, add them to playlist and resync is what I do.  we have 2 ipods and it gets to be a pain in the arse b/c it constantly puts my songs on John's and vice versa so I have created a couple of "on the go" playlists and whenever I import music I just drag the new songs into the on the go list I want them in.

kris, you can create a different library for each ipod if you want.  when you open itunes, just hold down the Shift key and it will pop up a screen to either open an existing one or create a new one.  it can also be a pain because you have to switch back and forth, but i think it is better than sharing.
