I came to the hospital yesterday morning for my scheduled induction, arrived at 7 am, the nurse has a hard time starting my IV and in the process I started feeling really nauseous. That was a rough way to start my day. Once my IV was done, they started the pitocin and I started contracting every 2-3 minutes. Had my epidural around 9 am and then my OB came in to break my water. I figured surely since I was contracting so frequently I would have Avery in no time. Boy was I wrong. I was at 3 cm until noon, then made it to 5 cm at 3 pm. The nurse turned me on my side to see if it would help at all. Thats when I started feeling the contractions, they were bearable at this point, nothing I couldn't handle. Not but an hour later I started feeling tons of pressure and called my nurse in. I was a 6 at 4 pm, but thats when Averys heart rate kept fluctuating and the pressure got real intense....like no pain/ pressure I had ever felt. The nurse checked me again and I was at a 9...this was in a matter of 30 min. She went to call my OB (who took FOREVER it felt like to get back.) At 4:30 the pain was so incredibly bad, I swear my epidural was off. I could feel everything. At 5 pm my Ob finally walked in and I pushed twice and out came Ms. Avery. She had the umbilical cord around her neck once, which is why she hadn't descended into the birth canal sooner (and why her heart rate kept dropping once she did.) She weighed in at 5 lbs 15oz and 19 in long. I am breast feeding so far, and so far so good. She is hard to wake up right now though, but the nurses keep telling me its because she is less than a day old. So we'll see. I am really hoping to make bf'ing work this time. : ) Wish us luck.
