ikea dishes?

hey girls.

does anyone have any experience with ikea dishes?

i'm tired of looking at pink and dora plates and bowls (and jake probably is too), plus utencils with plastic handles.  emily is definitely using regular utencils and jake's sort of right on that line.  he wants to use the grown up utensils and does pretty well, but they're still a little too long and heavy.

i was thinking of picking up some of these plates and bowls and these spoons and forks.  i can get 6 plates, 6 bowls, 6 forks and 6 spoons for $20.

thoughts?

I don't have experience with their dishes, but heck, at those prices, it is worth a try!!! Honestly,I am sick of the plastic kiddie stuff too-but we don't have enough "adult" flatware and dishes for everyone to use between dishwasher runnings. I might go this route too!!!

The dishes look very similar to what we have, which we got for our wedding at crate & barrel and were likely 4x the price.

I say go for it!!! Do you have an IKEA near you? (ours is like 40 minutes or so-so I hardly ever go there)

Go for it. I shop at IKEA quite often and I actually plan on getting those soon I just threw out all the plasticwares, plates, bowls that the kids had.  So they are using our plates for now but I 'd like to get their plates.  Theyre so cheap that I wouldn't care if they broke.

My other thought is that 6 would not be enough around here. We go through 9 a day, so I'd probably go with a dozen, but I have three kids.

thanks everyone!

stacey, the kids eat breakfast and lunch at school m-f, so they only need dinner dishes during the week.

i got 6 of each for now and if i think we need more, i'll go back.  i heart.gif ikea.

can't beat $10 for 12 dishes!

btw, i skipped the flatware.  i wasn't impressed.

What was wrong with the flatware?  Just curious. I am interested in hearing your feedback on it!

the size options were good, but they were just a little too flimsy for my taste.  like, it seemed like i could just bend them in half, kwim?

Hmmm...yeah, that is not good.  I think maybe I will look at Tuesday Morning sometime for flatware.  They usually have good prices.  But I would like to find some that isn't HUGE, kwim?  I refuse to spend the money on those kiddie ones, like in the One Step Ahead catalogs?  Those things are like $20 for one place setting!!

Thank you for the input-I will not look into the flatware from them.
