Now that I have to make all of Kaylin's bread, I'm thinking I'll just get a machine and making everyone's bread. That said, I have spent way too much time pouring over reviews on Amazon. I think I'm about to order the Sunbeam 5891 2 Pound unit. It's $63.91 and has gotten really good reviews.

I have this one:
http://www.zojirushi.com/ourproducts/breadmakers/bbcc_x20.html

I LOVE it! It makes a giant loaf, though. I have discovered that if I make the bread a day before I want it, and wrap it in foil overnight, the crust is super soft.

Okay, we have one and never use it. Honestly, when we make bread I prefer to do it out of the bread machine. If I had a choice I would get a nice mixer for the dough but bake it in my own pans in the oven. I find that it turns out better in there and doesn't have that hole in the bottom of the loaf from the machine.

mmm hadnt thought of that approach.

the cuisinart has an alarm that lets you know it's a good time to take the paddle out, so you dont have that weirdo hole. i hate the hole too.

i actually have a great mixer...i wonder if i should do that...it never even occurred to me.  the mixer is HUGE and i cant lift it, which is why i never use it. it was a wedding gift.

alaina, i'm going to check into that one too.

If you have a mixer, I would totally try it out and see how you like it. I hate the bulkiness of the bread machine though mine isn't super heavy.

Hmm. I have a kitchen aide mixer. Do you think that doing it that way is not hard to get the dough out, etc.

Giving me something to think about.

I have an old bread machine (around 8 or so years) so they are made a bit smaller now.  I like mine, but don't remember what it is called.  I also have the big "cement mixer" as it's called here.

If I am making bread, I would do it in the bread maker.  It is quick and easy.  I can stick the ingredients in and walk away and leave it.  Mine also has settings so I can just let the dough kneed and rise and then take it out. That works for things like pizza crusts and rolls, but you could definitely do it for bread dough to stick it in your own pan.  To me, that means less time and less mess.

As for cost, I think it is much less than buying bread.  You buy a jar of yeast and bread machine flour.  The other things you use are things you keep around the house anyway.  It's also fun to experiment and make breads like tomato basil or herb bread.  You can also control the ingredients this way so you know that there is nothing in there that you do not want in your food.

Although it's not an issue now, when my ds was a teen this was a great thing to have because it was cheap and he would sit down and gobble the fresh bread.  That's a good thing when you have a never ending teenage eating machine. giggle.gif

Granted either way of making it, you will have the fresh baked bread smell in your house, which is sooooo good.

Now I think I need to go make some bread. biggrin

I absolutely love my bread machine!  I make it all the time esepciallly for doughs.  If I don't bake it in there, I use it for dough mixing/rising then bake it in the oven.  I use it for cinnamon rolls dough, pizza dough, bread (dough and/or bake).  Just less mess for me to deal with I guess.  It just nice to just set it and go.  Awesome stuff!

Yeah theres so many you can do with a bread machine.  I'm sure if you google up bread machine recipes there are insanely so many!!!  I love to experiement.  I have the ol' heavy bread machine.  Ive had it since probably 7 years now.  When it does break down I will eventually buy a new one!  It works as good as it does.  I agree about the hole thing in the bottom of the bread, hated that!  Thats why I tend to use it mostly for dough making so I do the rest of the cooking/baking in the oven and it turns out perfect, no hole =)

She's on an egg and wheat free diet.  The loaves I can buy at very select stores are $6, weigh a thousand pounds, and aren't very good.

I honestly don't know! I don't have a mixer but my dad does. I knead the dough by hand. :)

you are hard core  (kidding)

honestly, I am sure I can do it and be just fine, but if I plan to do this all the time then I may invest in a bread maker.
