Your kitchen floor?

What kind of kitchen flooring do you have? What do you use to clean it? Is it easy to clean? Do you love it or hate it?

i have a blue-ish gray stone tile which is VERY easy to clean (i use a squirt & mop type of product by method, or just vinegar & water) - but we dont love the look of it.  sometime this year we're replacing it with hardwoods  - i clean hardwood with vinegar & water, though method has a product i might try.

we have very old linolium at the apartment that is awful.

hidious.

it's a white color with blue squares. it always looks dirty. it has cuts in it, etc.

I'm replacing it as soon as I can either get them to do it or when i can afford it myself.

i had peel and stick tiles at the house and they were a dark grey. they were awful - the peel and stick part - but they didn't show one bit of dirt. they were awesome that way.

I replaced that with a beige tile and I am so glad I don't live there. it shows every single spec of dirt. looks good but was not a good choice.

i have no idea what I'll put in the apartment. something that hides dirt but is not ceramic tile (which I find cold and hard).

I have a grooved hardwood in my kitchen and hate it. Everything gets in the grooves. I would love flat hardwood, laminate, or tile. I have a steam mop to clean the floors with. No chemicals, no residue.

i agree, the tiles are very cold. the whole house feels cold. my feet are ice right now, even in socks. and the whole ambience is cold. i always sit here thinking "how can i make this feel a little more inviting" ya know?

We have the wood laminate stuff...but it looks like tile. I really like it. Easy to clean. We considered tile. Was more expensive, cold, and when something drops on it it SMASHES (bad enough that happens with my granite). Would have gone with a wood look, but it's up against hardwood, and it wouldn't have matched well enough.

Could you give me a link to something like this? Sounds interesting.

wood laminate = pergo, robin.

hardwoods ding VERY easily.

if cold is your issue, i swear i'd get heated tile floors before i'd do hardwood again.

i'd rather have a plate break (which can be replaced) than more dings in my hardwood floor (which have to be repaired by a professional $$$$$).

mmmm good point. hmm.  we're really used to these tiles too (ie, they are indestructable - we totally abuse them and nothing happens).

hmm.

i wonder if i should go with a tile in the kitchen and then hardwoods in the eating area/front hall...

i would.

all around my island and in front of stove there are dings from things falling on the floor - there's even a hole or 2 from me dropping a knife.  oops.

I'm going to second April's POV on the hardwoods in the kitchen.

We have them, and they are getting trashed. I love the look of them, but they don't hold up as well as I'd like. I'm guessing some woods hold up better than others; I think ours are cherry, and I wouldn't go that route again.

If I had it to do over again, I probably would've saved the money and done a ceramic tile (something travertine looking like we have in our bathrooms, like this).

we have cermic tile in the kitchen. i guess it's easy enough to clean. it's cold as all get out, but i like it.

i wouldn't do wood in my kitchen b/c if the dishwasher or something flooded, i'd hate to see my floors ruined. with tile that's not a concern.

My biggest concern with tile (aside from being cold), was the issue of cracking.

Danielle dropped a jar of jelly on our kitchen floor, and one of the tiles got a crack in it. Over time it kind of developed into this spiderweb like crack, and we had to replace the tile.

Also, I hate cleaning grout, and the grout in our kitchen was always getting stained (from spilled sauce, and even wet dog food stained it). Super annoying. It's possible to get it clean, but was never a fun task.

That said, I hate linoleum, and I'm with April on the wood floors (those things get trashed!)
