Ipod trouble - help!!

We have 2 ITouches in our house.  Whenever we connect them to the computer they automatically sync and charge . . . well, until last night.

DS1 plugged his in with the USB cable and nothing.  He tried the 2nd USB cable.  nothing.  Tried both ports.  nothing.  So we got my Itouch and tried with both cables in both ports and nothing.

I have googled and tried to figure out what it could be.  Most things I've found say its the USB or the Ipod . . . well, we have 2 of each and I'm sure they both didn't get the same problem on the same day!

I guess I will call Apple if nobody here has ever experienced this b/c I am at a loss.

TIA

ETA:  I have shut both Ipods down as well as the computer and reinstalled Itunes.

sounds like a problem with your USB ports or the cables you are using somehow both became bad at the same time :P.  can you try plugging them into a different computer to see if they are recognized?  i really don't think it is a problem with the ipods themselves, but more likely with  your computer or the cables.

That's weird.

So it's not syncing AND it's not charging? Yeah, if it's missing both I have no clue what's wrong. Seems nearly impossible that both cords, ports, or anything else would go bad on both at the same time, but idk what it could be.

I called Apple and they walked me through a few things but everything they checked was good.

I shut it down again, got the canned air out and blew out both ports.  I tried it again and it worked.  So apparently I had dirty ports?!

I was just goign to say dirty ports (lol, i'm awesome at troubleshooting after someone else figures out the problem).

when we were in san francisco, i couldn't get mine to charge and thought it was because of my cord but finally i realized that if I blew into the ipod and suddenly it worked.
