I am currently reading I Am Legend. Very interesting because I didn't know it was written a while ago so it is super different from the movie. (I read Dexter right before and it is SO similar to the first season of the show it was weird to read.)

Anyway, no idea if it is your style. It is interesting but I am to the point where it is not making sense. I'm sure it will once I read through it but that is what I'm reading now. :)

The Cure by Geeta Anand.  It is the story that inspired the movie extraordinary measures that is coming out.  It is non-fiction, but very well written (written like a story, iykwim).

I'm on this kick about reading books before seeing movies.

I finished Dear John by Nicholas Sparks about a week ago.  It made me reflect a lot, which is saying something since Nicholas Sparks doesn't typically evoke a lot of thought just a nice story (FTR, I heart all things Nicholas Sparks).

2 that i like a lot recently.

first is eva moves the furniture by margot livesey. it started a little slow and and is definitely not something i would have imagined i would like, but i really loved it.

the other is the glass castle by jeanette walls. it's a memoir of horrific childhood being raised by insanely neglectful parents. definitely worth reading.

I just read A Thousand Splendid Suns for book club. I didn't think I would like it but I actually thought it was great. Don't get me wrong, it's not really a happy story but definitely a good book.

as an aside - has anyone read Three Cups of Tea? It's our next book club read and I'm not looking forward to it. someone tell me it was good...please?

I read Three Cups of Tea, and I really liked it.  It was non fiction, but read like a novel.  Very interesting story about one man's impact on Afganistan.

Great thread! I've been wanting to add a book to read on my ipod. I was thinking of getting Dear John (it will be my first Sparks book) but I wasn't completely sold on it... so I'll be watching this thread. (I don't have anything to add. I've been read US Weekly mags for months as my only reading material. Yikes.)

Thanks, I am going to check out the first one. I read glass clastle and liked it too.

I did read A thousand Splendid Suns and loved it.

 

Never heard of the second one. I am loving all these new titles. I am in need of good books.

I got a Kindle for Christmas, so I've been downloading all the free books. So that means I've been reading smutty Harelquin novels for a few weeks now. It's been forever and it's good to have a quick easy read.

My first download was Dan Brown's newest. It was ok. Not as good as the first two though.

One of my all time faves is The Time Traveler's Wife.

I don't have the attention span for novels right now :(, but I've been reading "The Man Who Ate Everything" by Jeffrey Steingarten.  It's a collection of essays about food.  It's SO good.

I like some of his earlier books better for the feel good quality.

My ALL TIME favorite book of his is The Wedding.  I haven't read it in years.  I also loved the rescue and a bend in the road.

I think his books, which are all love stories, have become a little more complicated and looked at love in different ways in later books.  He probably got bored with happily ever afters.  Too bad I wasn't tired of them, lol!

if we're talking all-time favorites, i'll throw out some others.

a thousand acres was awesome. it's loosely based on the plot of king lear. loved that one.

brave new world by aldous huxley is my classic literature favorite. i HATE scifi, but this one is totally worth the read. the movie demolition man is loosely based on this one. (i think it's sandra bullock's character who is named huxley after the author.)

and everyone MUST read a tree grows in brooklyn. it's SO long, but i read it in a weekend because i could not put it down. amazing story. heart.gif

this one is a fun read if you like Jane Eyre etc - it's a "science fiction/literature" book.

i love a tree grows in brooklyn also.
my favorite author is steinbeck.  LOVE all of his stuff, especially east of eden.
winter of our discontent is good too, and tortilla flat - very easy and quick, but in my opinion, says a lot.
i also adore "in cold blood."

I loved a tree grows in brooklyn. I must get that one and reread it. Thankws for bringing it up.

I usually do not like sci-fi myself, but you say it is good, eh?
