What do I take. I have a stuffy nose and congested chest that is tight, but I constantly are blowing and coughing.

What works with you when you are sick?

I have bad Mountain Cedar allergy, but since I'm out of Tylenol Allergy meds, I took some liquid Tylenol Cold....it seemed to help dry things up enough that I was able to sleep better.

Hope you feel better soon.

did mucinex work right away or is this something you have to take more then once. I took it last night and I was up coughing all night.  Can I take that with something else?

I'm not sure. But, is the coughing irritated by your throat? Like, are you coughing because of that tickle? I have been using those fizzler things they make for kids that numb your throat and it has helped me cough less. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :D

yes and no. When I breath and the air gets in it sends me on a coughing fit. That sounds funny since I am always breathing. I have congestion, but it is not a wet cough. However (TMI) I start to cough and am constantly clearing my throat. I cough so hard that the phlegm does come up and it makes me gag. It is a whole mess of not pretty right now.

If you go to the pharmacy and ask for the real deal behind the counter, they have it.  Here you have to sign for it because it is psuedophed and not the replacement for it.  The formula with the replacement drug does n.o.t.h.i.n.g. for me.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

I have been taking mucinex DM for when my cough is really bad.

I have also found Delsym to be helpful.

Also, massive doses of Nyquil will always do the trick in knocking me out (the other combo above is better when I need to be an alert, functioning human the next morning).

I'm sorry you are sick-that cough is the worst!

Stupid question, but can you take the cough syrup and the delsym?  At night my cough is awful and keeps me up all night. I am always worried to combine stuff because I also take a zyrtec and synthroid pill.

Delsym is cough syrup (dextromethorphan). It is a pretty heft dose, and is only supposed to be taken every 12 hours. I would only take one product that has dextro in it (you can look at the active ingredients on the product packaging; it should say if it's in there).

I was taking Mucinex DM (which contains dextromethorphan) and a benedryl for nighttime, which helped a lot when I had that deep, chesty cough. Benedryl is basically a sleep aid (it's found in Tylenol PM).

Otherwise, if you have just an annoying cough, like a perpetual tickle, I took Delsym with benedryl.

Of course, I'm not a dr, so I'm not sure I woud trust my advice, lol!

Thanks, I will send you payment, lol.

I think I may try the benedryl tonight then. The last two nights have been awful.
