Full back booster seats

I am wondering what everyone is using if they have switched to a booster for their 4 yo.    Sara gave me some great information on a few seats (thanks Sara!).  My top picks are/were the Britex Frontier and the Clek Oobr.  The Frontier has terrible install reviews and is quite bulky and large so I decided to get the Clek.  I read a review that the Clek seat depth was too short.  It does seem short with only a depth of 12-14 inches in comparison with others out there.  I don't want to spend $300 on a seat that doesn't fit her properly and I can't find any stores that carry it to have her sit in it.  Does anyone have this seat?

So, I need your help.  She is has completely outgrown her Britex Marathon.  Lauren is tall at nearly 44" now (this is mostly legs).  I really wanted a 5pt harness booster with the Latch system but these are the only two I see with these features.

What are you using and why do you like it or not like it?

Michele, are you wanting a booster or 5 pt for Lauren?

I think the Clek Oober is just a booster.

I would go with a Britax Frontier. I have heard they can be a bit hard to install. Is it is seat you would move very often? Also the Frontier has an expiration of 9 years which is nice since most are only 6 years.

Britax will have a sell here soon they always do in Feb and Sept.

Michele, they do have them here in store at buybuybaby. Do you have that store near you? I can go this weekend and have Allie sit in it. She is not as tall as Allie, but I think about 43 inches.

Wait, looking at their site they do not have 5 point harness???

Are these the ones?

I got Jake a Frontier last month.  I took him to BRU and sat him in the Graco Nautilus and the Frontier.  The Nautilus crotch strap was under him.  I like that on the Frontier he has plenty of crotch room so I can continue to harness him.

It always takes me forever to install a carseat - I want them to be in there with zero wiggle room.  It makes it a little harder for me b/c I have Kate in the middle of my backseat with a Britax Boulevard so I'm putting the Frontier next to it and I can't even hardly get my hand b/w them to fast the belt.

The Frontier is big.  It's heavy.  But I read somewhere - what do you expect with a seat that you want to protect a preschooler who weighs 40-60 pounds?

I've been a fan of Britax having 2 boulevards and a Marathon (I think - not sure what Kate has in John's truck).  I love the Frontier and will get one for Kate when she's ready to move up.

We have the Apex booster that harnesses up to 65 pounds and has latch. I love it. I will be getting two more for Owen when he outgrows his current seat. They have one particular color on albeebaby.com for about $85.

Juni could you link that?

Michele i'm glad you asked this because I have to start thinking about getting a new seat for Hannah. I'm not sure what to do. She is 5 1/2 and weighs 35.2 lbs. She's a peanut. Right now she's in a 5 point harness that goes to 40lbs. I do have two seats for Bryson that go to 65lbs with a harness and I was debating swapping the one Kent has for him in his truck for the one Hannah has in my car. Bryson is just about 25lbs so that would buy me some time.

Sara is Bryce still in a 5 point harness?

Thank you! I feel like i've seen those locally and for about the same price. It's kind of funny with the way Hannah doesn't gain weight I told one my friends yesterday where we were at with carseats and she says you probably have a year before Hannah hits 40 I wouldn't worry. LOL. I'm not sure how she stacks up height wise though.

How is Hannah doing on height in her 40 lbs seat?  Owen is harnessed in a seat that goes to 40 lbs now and he probably has about a 1/2 inch growing room harness wise before he will out grow it.

No, Bryce is in a high back booster. He was harnessed in the van until he was 5 yr 8 months he has been in a booster full time since that point, but he was also over 40 lbs.  He had road in a booster in John's truck since about 4 1/2. At his 7 yr check up in Dec he was 50 lbs and 48 1/4 inches I believe.

Just know with these you have to have this seat always in a place that has a top headrest on the vehicle seat.

Really? I don't think I have a headrest in my car! Now I'm blanking.

Pretty sure that is the case with these I can look again after my nap but I remember that is why they hardly recommend it often anymore since it is not one easily movable to other vehicles if there is no head rest.

Shoot. I just checked - no headrests and I've been using this seat in there for quite a while! Do you know why you are supposed to have a headrest? I didn't see this anywhere when I was looking to buy it. Crap! I guess I may go the route of putting it in doug's car for owen and getting two new seats for my car. What's the deal with having to have a headrest?

the MAJOR thing about the apex is....the headrest MUST be supported by the vehicle headrest. the apex's headrest is not reimforced so that's why it needs the vehicle to provide that.

found that on the carseat board. I can post there later if you want a specific link. really am going to take my rest now..lol but i had to find that.

Wow. I am SO glad you told me that. I had no idea. I will be moving Gavin's into Doug's car since it has a head rest and Owen's seat to Gavin's. Gavin still fits into (technically) but I guess we will be needing to buy two new seats sooner rather than later! Thanks so much Sara!

sorry for the t/j, Michele.

I was just reading that most cars LATCH system is only good to 40lbs? That after that you have to use the seatbelt? Is this true?

I HAAAAAAAATE that about the Nautilus.  And frankly, I don't understand it.  Mason is pretty little, and the crotch strap is still practically under him.  And I feel like the chest clip is too loose - he can move it up and down while he's sitting in the seat.

But he's probably around 37 pounds, so I'm going to wait a while to put him in the high-back booster that we already have.  It doesn't have a harness, and he's just too little for me to feel safe with it.

I really wanted to put him back in the Britax Marathon and get a new convertible for Evelyn, but can't justify spending the money when the seats we have are safe.

Okay, so for those in the know (coughsaracough) now I need two new boosters that harness past 40 pounds.

I would love one that is not super wide and could potentially fit into my backseat with three carseats total (don't get any ideas). But I'm also on a budget. Any thoughts?

I have the Nautilus and not sure what you guys keep talking about. The clip comes up and clips in just fine. I mean you have to make sure it is not under them when they sit, but it goes right over. Is it because it goes over crotch.

My chest clip does not move either? I was just wondering since I have had it for a year now and had no issue.
