Kylie will be starting kindergarten the end of August.  Our cutoff is Dec 2nd.  I am trying to get her in to our local charter school.  Our school district uses a lottery system for the charter school.  I am not happy with the school in our immediate area.  If she doesn't get in to the charter school I may enroll her in independent studies through the charter school which will put her at the top of the waiting list and secure her spot there for first grade.

I would be fine with just holding her back a year if she doesn't get in, but she is already taller than all the kids her age.

ETA: Our charter school is publicly funded and free.

Speaking of being tall, there are a couple of girls in Mason's class that are a full head taller than him!  They are already 5, but I don't think there are any girls in his class of any age that are his height or shorter.  The boys are all shorter than the girls.  And he had a huge growth spurt a few months ago, LOL!

R's going to full day public K.
we live in a great district, and i am so looking forward to her getting her education here.  this is the school system i went through, so that's sort of neat too.
her teachers think she's definitely ready.

Koda is already the tallest in his class, my one concern about next another year of preK, but I don't think he cares at all, tbh.  I think I worry about things like that far more than he does.

this is so depressing for me. we live in one of the worst school districts and i am so envious of those who live in a good school district where the kids all go to school togehter and make friends that live in the neighborhood, etc. but it is what it is :sigh

our choices are: send her to another year of pre-k at the preschools he is currently in;
send her to a private school but there are not any close by (most would be about 20 minutes away)
apply for a magnet school (part of the public school district and free but a lotter system)
look into charter schools ??

so, at this point, idk.

Fingers crossed Lauren will get in to a technology charter school here.  Registration starts on Tuesday.  It is a lottery but I am hopeful she will get in.  *cough* I've heard making sizable donations help. *cough*.  If not, we are planning to move anyway so I will make sure it is in a good public school district until I can get her in.  It is a full day - they don't have the half day option here.

Alexandra is staying at the International Baccalaureate school we currently have her in. We're pretty excited about it... I really love the curriculum and approach, and her comprehension of Spanish is pretty amazing (it's an immersion program). I wanted to hold her back a year (I was young for my grade, and was hoping she wouldn't be), but her teachers feel pretty strongly about putting her into K next year.

The public school near us is supposed to be fantastic... but the school is HUGE, with 21 kindergarten classes (each with the normal 21-ish students) and over 1,000 students in the elementary school. Does that seem crazy big to anyone else? (My elementary school had 2 kindergartens, LOL)

M2 will be going to public kindergarten. The only question is which one. We are not sure if we are going to move before the start of the school year or not. Around here there are some 1/2 day kindergarten classes and some full day. Where we live currently, it is full day. I want him to go to full day.

Full day public k. It's the same elementary school my boys are in and the only year they will all be in the same school at the same time. Our cut off is Dec 1st and her teachers say she is definitely ready.

One of my good friends taught a K class like the one you described. It was specifically for summer birthday kiddos. Based on how they did, some went on to first grade and some stayed another year in K.

Kaylin will be going to K every day for half days. She'll be going to the Charter School that Braydon attends. We just love it. I know she'd love to go full time, but I can't justify the price when I'm at home.

confused...

paying for charter school?  can you expand on this?

We have to pay if we want to send our child to all day Kindergarten.  That's how it is at all the schools around here.  Half day is free.

i *think* mason will be starting K, but we aren't sure where yet.  there is a possibility that we will stay one more year in amsterdam, and if that happens he will stay in the school he is in how.  but, likely we will move back to the states, but we aren't sure back to indy.  i would like to go to indy but efe thinks it wouldn't be the best move for his career, so we will see.

Clara is already in her first year of kindergarden.  it is a 2 year program, it's the Luxembourg national school system.

Its interesting - there are 12 children in each class.  as it is a 2 year program, it is a mixture of children who are 4 and 5 years old.  (50% of each) so this year, she is in the youngest half of the class, and next year when the older 6 go to first grade she will be in the older half (same group of 6 kids, same teacher) and 6 new 4 year olds will join.

then in sept 2011 she will start first grade.

the program is full time, and the curriculum is amazing.  she is even going away to "camp" for 4 days/3 nights in May - yikes! imagine being a kindy teacher and going camping with 12 4-5 year olds for nearly a week!!! (there is a school dedicated campground in the forest/countryside about 20 min away from home - there is additional staff of specialists who lead the camp curriculum, and the teacher has 2 additional assistants so there is a ratio of 3 adults dedicated to the 12 kids, plus the additional activity leaders.)

Mikey isn't ready for K but our school system is great and has something called Early Childhood Kindergarten. It's basically a pre-Kindergarten at the elementary school (instead of the separate district preschool building) for kids who aren't ready for K or who are special needs. You have to qualify and I am sure Mikey will - so it's free. 5 days a week 2.5 hours a day. I wish it was longer because I think my kids need more and thrive on the schedule.

Next year I'll have 3 of my 4 kids in school at least 1/2 days 5 days a week!

We need to get our butts in gear and find a house. I'm not even sure when registration opens up, but Kyle will most likely be going to public K full-day. Just depends on where we decide to live. The cutoff here is Sept 1st.

This is us. Ethan is going to public kindergarten. We are hoping to move before our lease is up in June and I'm not sure what district we will be in. Very excited though!
