I was just wondering if any of you have any particular cold medications for your kiddos that you use. And yes I know the recommendation is to not give them anything, but especially at nighttime I am not convinced this is always the best course of action.
Elizabeth has a cold right now and I have some Robitussin Cough and Cold I gave her. I am going to see how well it works. So do you have any that you prefer or you think works like a charm?
We really only use 2 things here - Delsym, which was recommended to us by the pediatrician. Last year it took care of everything Hannah had, but this year Hannah got a nasty cold and it wouldn't let go (even with the Delsym, and after a trip to the pediatrician) - anyways, Juni told me about Mucinex Cough for Kids (I can't remember if she recommended the melts - which are basically a pixie stick of the medicine, or if that's just what we ended up with.) Anyways, that stuff is amazing. (So, thanks, Juni!)

I have used mucinex and specifically mucinex cough with great success for Gavin. Owen, we have been experimenting because his coughing is keeping him up most of the night.
FWIW - our doc told us robitussin is the same as mucinex they just don't have as good of an ad campaign, LOL. I checked the label and it is almost exactly the same.

Oh, I'm so glad it helped you guys. Good to know the melts work well too, I was wondering about that.
It's hard to find but we were able to find a generic of the mucinex cough - I think at Kmart. It's much cheaper but the exact same ingredients.
we use triaminic night time cold and cough formula and it does help her alot. I have tons that I got for free at wagreens (it is on sale 2/$10.00 with $5.00 register reward and I had some $3.00 off coupons but you can also print some $1.50 off coupons here).
I've been using tylenol cough and cold for Anna this week. I don't think it helps a ton with the cough but I feel a little safer giving it to her b/c it doesn't knock her out and make her like a zombie.
We've used all kinds of stuff for Hannah. Despite what the official recommendations are I simply talk the dose over with my pedi if one isn't provided for Hannah's age or weight and Bryson also. I have never been a believer nor a follower of the don't give them anything. I can't stand to suffer with those types of symptoms and I wouldn't let my kids. Personally I think it kind of stinks that the meds that at least in our case have made a huge difference especially for Hannah get a bad rap because people have a hard time dosing their children. I'm not talking about anyone here either, we had a local case of a mom who gave her infant 8 times the recommended amount of tylenol or something ridiculous like that!! The baby did not surive. I'm not convinced that that is the maker of tylenol's fault.
Some of our most used are the tylenol pluses... tylenol plus cold and stuffy nose, tylenol plus cough and sore throat, we use lots of benedryl, when she's super sick we've used children's nyquil, a good one we've just discovered with Hannah's recent illness is dimetapp cough and cold, they make a night and day version and it's been so good for her.
