We moved into our new place over the weekend. We've gone from living in a ranch to a tri-level townhome. On our second floor, which is really the main floor, is our living room, dining room, kitchen and 1/2 bath. The living room has a partial half wall that opens to the foyer area below.

My kids are climbers and we are super worried that they will climb it and fall over the edge.

I like the openness so I don't really want to put a big piece of furniture in front of it. We were thinking of some kind of tall banister type thing. Any ideas?

I'd post a picture but right now it has a china hutch and entertainment center pushed together in front of it.

I think I know what you are talking about. I would look for spindles or a banister like you are saying then. It will keep it open, but keep them from going over.

Do you like your new place?

i was goign to say a spindly banister type thing as well. my mom has the same setup in her condo.  she has a lot of potted plants up there - i wonder if that would deter your kids??

I am not sure what your decorating style is, but another thing you could do is to hang old framed windows or something that you can see through from the ceiling.  It would make a barrier but you could still see through.

To be honest, my first thought was the spindles deal, but was not sure if you could do that where you are or not.  Welcome to trilevel living.  Our house is trilevel and I have kind of a love hate relationship with it. giggle.gif  Your place sounds similar to ours.
