I have been having crowns done on a few of my teeth. The process was halted because I had to get a root canal on one. The temporary crown I had fell off and I went a week without a covering. On wed I had the permanent crown put in. Last night I woke up with a mouth full of blood. A lot of blood. I even had a large blood clot around the new crown that I was able to take out (Sorry TMI) I could not believe how much I was bleeding. I called the dentist this morning and he said this happens sometimes...with no other explanation. He did call in a prescription of penicillian (sp?) for me.
What do you think? What would you have done? Have you ever heard of this happening before?

I've had 3 crowns and then had to get those crowns replaced and never had a problem.

I agree with Kristi. Doesn't sound right to me and I would definitely call back and ask for an explanation. I was a dental assistant for years and never saw this. I also have about 6-7 crowns in my mouth (lost count a loooooong time ago *blush*) and never had anything like this happen.
This was the tooth you had a root canal on, right? The root canal may have gotten infected but he definitely should have had you back in to take a look. Root canal infections do occur and can sometimes be cleared up simply by taking antibiotics, but not always.
Another thing that could have happened is that you could have fractured your tooth when you went without a crown for a week. This is less likely because even though the tooth was root canaled, it would most likely be very sensitive, even with the crown on. Again, not always though.
Like I said, call back and ask for an explanation. I'm not a dentist (even though I really wish I had gone to school to become one! One of my biggest mistakes) so I don't know very much at all but I do know that he should have let you know what happened. You never know when you would need to have that information in the future.

Di- it wasn't even the tooth that had the root canal. That one is fine. I am waiting on the crown for that one.

Oh and that reminds me, I had a root canal that needed to be re-done and then the crown was replaced.
A couple of days before the root canal the tooth really started to hurt and after the root canal I was in severe pain.
It was super infected and I could feel the infection all over my body.
It went away with abx but it never bled during any of that.
dyt that the tooth got injured while he did the root canal? I had that happen to me the last time i went in for a root canal (the gum was injured and bled from teh clamp that they use...it also got infected)
