What age did you start letting your child sleep with blankets?

Bryson sleeps with one blanky. The blanky. It's a light cotton gap blanket that we put in his crib when we were weaning him from the swaddle. I think he's pretty attached now which is really what I wanted, but it never leaves the crib. We broke him of the swaddle I think when he was 10 months? So he's had it since then.

I believe for us around one year.

Before they could roll we swaddled, but then no more once they moved.

It might have been 10-11 months.  Strong enough to lift head, body, crawl.  That is when we felt comfortable turning down the heat and giving a blanket instead.

Though Tristen is always hot and doesn't use any blankets (even when I am freezing!), and insists on wearing shorts to bed.  Silly boy.

Once it got cold here, I put a blanket on M2. So, maybe 3 months? I know you're not "suppossed" to, but I didn't want him to be cold!

Keegan still sleeps in a sleepsack but he is about to out grow the size he is in and I think we are going to get him out of that, we moved him to that when weaning him of the swaddle.

I know my other two were using blankets before now but Keegan has not thus far and he is all over the crib so I am doubting it will even stay on him when I do start maybe here in the next few weeks.

Lauren was around 10 months I think, maybe closer to a year. Anna was definately earlier.  I *think* 6 months.  I used sleep sacks before that but she was so active that she was always pissed when she couldn't move like she wanted so I started using a blanket.

You mean for warmth or comfort?

We kept them in sleepsacks until they stood and it caused a problem. After that we dressed them warmer. They slept with blankets for warmth probably at about age 2ish. It was probably later for Anna. (they were swaddled as infants)

For comfort, IDK-I forget really, but it was earlier-just with small blankies. Maybe 18 months or so? I know the one Anna latched onto, she picked out, so she was old enough to know she really wanted it-and Kate was more into her teddy bear.

Ok, Allie honestly did not use a blanket till she was 2. She never wanted one. I think I may try one with Mia now. She use to use the sleep sack, but hated it once she was moving.

Oh-I forgot to mention that when they stopped using the sleep sacks, and we used footed fleece pjs (with long sleeved onesies on underneath), if it was SUPA cold in their rooms, we used the portable propane heater we have. Anna's room only has one outside wall, so hers isn't bad, but Kate's room gets brutally cold, so we used that.

Anna never kept blankets on before being in a bed, and Kate barely did.

Supa, looks like we are odd men out. Allie did not use a blanket till she was out of bed either. A kid here at 17 months died in bed from sufocating and that freaked me out. I also have them in heavy sleepers w/ long sleeve onsies under & a heater in mias room.

Cole still doesn't sleep with a 'blanket' for warmth. he has a sheet on his bed, but doesn't use it.

when he could crawl (a year) we gave him a soft blanket to cuddle (wooby), which he only uses for soothing, not for keeping warm.

jack got a blanket when he was sitting up, at around 6 months...but he only got one because i found a sweet minky giraffe print blanket on mamabargains, and i couldn't pass it up for him. :D

After reading everyone's responses we don't use blankets for warmth yet. He has flannel sheets that the awesome Jayna made for us and he sleeps in fleece Carter's sleepers. He does have the one cotton blanket, which I would say is his lovey. We also run a small space heater in his room. If I remember correctly once we moved Hannah out of her crib into the toddler bed we did blankets for warmth, she was 2 and a half I think and we never had a problem at that age.

Wow-that would freak me out too!!!  I never felt like the kids were cold because we layered so much, and they slept fine without blankets, so I figured they weren't missing anything.  And the little ones didn't bother me-I didn't figure they were big enough to cause a problem.  If we have another baby at some point, I imagine I will do the same things.

Does Mia seem cold?  Or does she seem to want something to snuggle with?

Man, I have no idea. The boys slept with me a lot of the time and during the cold months they were always in those fleece feety pajamas. On top of that, for a looong time they were both swaddled so I never worried about them being cold. I would say around 10-12 month for Gavin. Owen, I don't know. Honestly he still sneaks into my bed every night and sleeps cuddled up to me under our blankets.

Neither boys ever had a lovey blanket. I always went the route of keeping them warm with clothes/jammies instead of blankets.

by the way, i totally used the sleep sack for a LONG time with both kids.  i really dont remember exactly when they used blankets - i had forgotten about the sleepsack stage (how ADORABLE do babies look in sleepsacks? i cant take it!)

You know, neither of my boys liked them. I think they needed to be swaddled and by the time they were out of the swaddle they were just too dang big for those sleep sacks. I just remember they seemed frustrated with them. But I always tried because they look SO cute!

maybe i will buy a sleep sack a size up for keegan then.  he has been my only one to sleep in a sleep sack and he loves it about as much as he loved his woombie while swaddling.
